Hey r-n-h, why is it that when my internets goes down I have to unplug my modem thingy and plug it back in to get it to work again?

Could be a number of things. The lease on your IP address may have expired, and the modem did not properly renew or reaquire, could be over-heating, or it could be outdated firmware in your modem. It could also be that the modem just locked up and requires a reboot. If you're experiencing that problem frequently, and you use the modem provided by the ISP, you should contact them for a replacement, as the modem may be near the point of failure.

ETA: What kind of modem is it, and do the lights on the modem remain lit when the modem drops the internet connection?

I do however question why if the thread was such a problem why it was not brought to a Mod's attention during the 9 months that it resided in the Football forum.

I had brought it up in the past...in that thread nonetheless.
