Might as well start a thread on one of my favorite activities. For those of you who hit the ice in the winter like I do, let's talk.

What species do you target? If you use a shelter or not. Maybe you have a big ice lodge. Type of auger. Favorite lures or bait.

Feel free to throw anything into the conversation. All are welcome.

Can't forget pictures. If you get into a good bite don't be afraid to drop a picture on here too.

Havnt done it in a few years, no pics.
Used to use tiny jigs tipped with colored maggots, or worm or grub for panfish, bluegills mainly.
Small minnows for crappie with yellow pink and or black combos, try it.
For walleye or pike, larger minnows, shiners preferably, free swim usually with small jig to hold them down, but not too big, to let them swim.
Same for tipups.

Just got back into it the last few years. Kids and a wife have a way of derailing your fun and money.

Bought a flip over shack three years ago and am happy with it. Didnt know what to expect but its been good. Enough room for me but just enough if one of my kids wants to come along as well. For my auger I have a 4 stroke Strikemaster. Love it as there is no mixing gas anymore. Cuts like a champ too. Bought it off a guy as he was dead set on getting a battery operated auger. I'm happy as I got it less than half price and it was a year old.

I'd seen a couple inches of ice, but this layer of snow on top is not going to help thicken the ice any. It would have been nicer getting 4 or 5 inches of ice before the snow came.

Last fishing on open water at Glendo Reservoir in Wyo was on Dec 21st. Walleye and crappie success. Looks like that was the last day of open water so on to ice fishing, as soon as we get 4" of good, solid ice. Saw a dummie in Lincoln was attempting to ice fish on Holmes Lake in Lincoln. Insufficient thickness and Lincoln firefighter crew had to haul him out of the lake.

Used to ice fish Hugh Butler lake north of McCook A LOT back in my youth.

Been to long for me to remember the bait.....but we did well getting some walleye.
