Everyone (except us) loves a team that beats Nebraska for a national championship. (Easy to forget that Frank took us to that one--in the 2000s.)

Every great team has 1 off game (1995 NU being the exception). The one thing keeping 2001 Miami from being the best ever is Larry Coker. Nice guy, solid coach, but not in the same class as TO, Saban, etc. They didn't win in spite of him, but if they had a better coach, they would probably be the best ever.

They also had a close call against #14 VT that season. Coker being an average coach is exactly why I wouldn't have them as a top 3 team.

It was an embarrassment of riches from a talent standpoint. The top three on their RB depth chart were: Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, and Frank Gore, who combined for 9 Pro Bowls and 34,400 yards in the NFL. Add to that names like: Andre Johnson, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow, Jonathan Vilma, Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, Antrel Rolle, Vince Wilfork. That's 11 guys who went on to become some of the top names in the NFL in the decade-plus that followed.

The 95 Huskers resume goes blow for blow with what Miami did in 2001, but there is a lot more professional appeal to what the Miami squad did afterward. I think when comparing you could make a compelling case for either being the best to ever do it. I lean Nebraska, but I'm also very biased.
