I looked at our baseball team for next year…. The future is bright!

I’m really excited for next year!

Assuming NIL, easy transfers and the MLB Draft doesn’t hit us unexpectedly….

And there is no prediction to that…it happens or it doesn’t….
Also….I am unsure if any of the listed seniors have a year left of eligibility because of early injury or other factors.

Anyway, assuming Seniors are “Seniors” we lose some really good position players:
Carey
Buck
Overbeek
Stokes
Kitchens

But Pitching we are not hurt as bad by graduation:
Mannell
Cleavanger
Worthley
Clark

Now here is the optimistic part….and it is GOOD!

We get ALL four Starters back AND our Closer.

Jasa
Horn
Blachowicz
Katskee
Unger

As well as BOTH Catchers that are interchangeable and really good!
Fikes
Worthley

Coming back position players who were good starters or seen a lot of action:
Sanderson
Moyer
Grego
Buettanbach
Freeman
Stroymeyer
Nunez
The last three being pretty solid
And a couple fellas that did not get much playing time this year.

Middle Relief has a solid base to build on….and a BUNCH of very young pitchers not even mentioned. And we have, literally, one of the best pitching coaches in the nation:
Timmerman
Bender
Stewart
Olsen
Harrahill
Nowaczyk
Ziola

Middle relief was our Achilles Heel this year and I think….our biggest need.

NEEDS:

Maybe a really big bat position player…
Need at least TWO very solid Middle Relievers
And I’d take another starter that could go 4 or 5 in middle relief if necessary (I mean who wouldn’t).

BOTTOM LINE:

Nobody knows how next year will turn out, it’s baseball. But from what I see on paper, we are going to be a force next year.

I think the future is BRIGHT!

I hope your optimism pays off, but I’d be shocked if Ty or Carson are back next year. Similarly I don’t expect Case back either, but he is at least possible.

Outfield and catcher are fully loaded and in great shape. 2 possible starters and closer back for sure. Need infielders and about 5 good pitchers. I think we may already have some likely infielders on the roster, just haven’t seen them in games. Pitching we need some serious upgrades to replace those who go pro and to get some relievers.

Couldn’t be prouder of this years team. Fought to the bitter end. Magical year.

You think the pros will entice Carson and Ty…??

Ty is definitely eligible to be drafted, but I don’t think Carson would be…. He has to complete one more year of school.

Or do you think someone with big NIL money will lure them away?

Agree on Case…. Will depend on what he’s being offered and his personal goals.

Jasa is a redshirt sophomore, so I believe he can go. He also has the most upside so I don’t expect him back as I think he’ll be the first Husker drafted. Ty has nothing left to prove, so I think he’ll go too. Hope I’m wrong on both accounts.

Rule is “completed three years of college”….

So if he has the credits I believe you are correct. If he has stretched that getting less credits because of baseball ….he can probably still catch up with summer school etc.

Darn it!….

He's earned whatever. Hope he comes back but also hope that if he doesn’t….he finds a home in the Bigs!

I was fortunate last year to sit at Camden Yards and watch Cade Povich tame the Yankees for 5 innings. Fun! Local boys doing good!
