I hate to say it but…

Who is a quick turnaround specialist? I'm assuming you mean immediate.

Lance Leipold has turned around Kansas. Didn't truly happen in year one, as KU went 2-10. Then a bowl game in year two.

Heck, Kirby Smart coached his first Georgia team to 8-5 -- after they went 10-3 the year prior under Mark Richt. Then Kirby's team went 13-2 in his second season.

That's just a couple of examples -- but it's commonplace among quality coaches. Year two is oftentimes when the big leap is made.

No different for Rhule. 2-10 with his first Temple team, bowl game in year two. 1-11 in year one at Baylor, 7 wins in year two.

Turning around a team in year two is a quick turnaround, imo. Fans expecting magic in year one are completely unrealistic. I've seen posters suggesting 8 wins in year one for Rhule is attainable -- or should be attainable. Crazy town. Sure, if it happens -- great. But anyone expecting or demanding a huge change in the W-L totals in season one are out of touch with reality.

As I've said previously, I don't care about number of wins for Nebraska in 2023. I only want to see a team improving as the season progresses, and more fundamentally sound football. I'll worry about win totals in 2024.

I would like to see Casey be the #1 this season, but if the coaches are really wanting to build toward year two, Sims may be the better choice, as he should be back in '24. The starting QB competition and crowning will be very interesting this season.
in my heart, I am hoping for Thompson. Objectively, I want the best player. It will be interesting, as I think this is the crux of the issue with many coaches that fail. Talent has to win, and I don't think that has happened every time in the past.

You are putting far too much stock into a spring game.

I've seen spring games in Lincoln that made Nebraska look like they were on their way to 10-11 wins. And then reality hit that Callahan was our coach.

Every coach has a different approach to a spring scrimmage in front of the fans. Every coach is working on different things, emphasizing different things, tinkering with different personnel. It's like NFL preseason games. They almost never are an indicator of regular season success.

Deion has yet to coach against an opponent that had more talent than his Jackson State teams. He had 3, 4, and 5-star kids on an HBCU roster, playing HBCU teams with no stars. No doubt Sanders increased the talent in Boulder -- but it was rotten for a long time. Now it's subpar. Most teams CU will play this season will have more talent than Deion's kids -- including Nebraska. Matt Rhule has done infinitely more than Deion at much higher levels of football. Forgive me for not buying into the Deion hype until I actually see him coach an FBS football game against an opponent he can beat by simply having a huge talent advantage.

I didn't see CU's spring game, but if you're saying they were slinging it, makes it sound like their defense was putrid. No less than 90% of the teams they'll face this season will present defenses far superior to what the Buffs rolled out yesterday. I remember Joe Dailey being a NU spring game star -- well, it's because he was throwing against an absolutely horrible Cosgrove defense.

Spring games consistently bring overreactions. Always have, always will.
I watched about 5 minutes of it. It was an offense vs defense format. Who knows what players were playing against who. But the one TD I saw of Sanders and then him going to the crowd with kisses or what not was such a turn off. Then the circle jerk networking of Fowler on the sideline with "Coach Prime" during the broadcast revealed what it actually was. An orchestrated reality show. I hope we curb stomp that loud mouthed mother you know what. I have no respect for that jerk off and never will. I can only think of one person more narcissistic than that blowhard.

I'd feel bad for Thompson if he loses out, he didn't know there would be a coaching change. Although he should have known it was on the table. But those aren't the tough conversations for us fans to have. So, I just want the best guy out there.

I feel exactly the same about Deion. Would love to see reality smack him hard.

Here's an example of what got Buffs fans all excited yesterday. No defender within 10 yards.

Colorado was 130th out of 131 teams in total defense and 131st in scoring defense last season. Not surprised Deion could hype up his fan base with an offensive display in their spring game.

Here's another. Where's the defense?

And I wouldn't be AT ALL surprised if that was completely scripted.

NU has its share of ugliness in the spring game. But at least you can honestly say that White's defense was actually getting after the offense pretty much all game. Lot of fumbles, but there was serious hitting/trying going on.

CU's defense, if they bothered to try or cover at all, let up visibly to let receivers walk in.

They wore the helmet pads.
Australia football helmets ??

I watched long enough to chuckle a couple of times and shake my head.

I understand the connections here: Fowler's a CU guy. Both he and Sanders worked for ESPN. The network sees it as was mentioned earlier in the thread, a reality show centered around football. It's still hard to stomach, unless you're a CU fan.

The only way they could have made it easier on Sanders Light and the offense would have been to have left the defense in the locker room. You mentioned the 10 yard cushion and there were also several plays where they left guys completely uncovered. I know enough CU fans that actually know football from my decades in Colorado to know they're rolling their eyes at this as well.

It'll be interesting to hear the spin after TCU is done with them.

I don't understand how any defensively player, even with a marginal ranking, would want to go to CU after that carnival sideshow. You are nothing more than a prop to showcase Coach Sanders and the offense.

Good luck developing and growing into a cohesive unit.

Yes, there is an option. This is from the XFL. XFL On-Side Kick Equivalent

The odds of the "kicking team" keeping the football (making a first down on 4th and 15 from the 25 yard line) is supposedly the same as the odds of recovering an on-side kick in today's game.

That could be interesting. Could get ugly though if there is a team with a white hot reciever and a QB lighting him up. Could start seeing some 200 point games
