I hate to say it but…

This is the offense I was afraid to see when Rhule was being rumored. This is the Iowa offense. It is entirely possible that by the time the season starts things will look different, but he wants the QB to just drop back and throw. There was absolutely no deception with what was run today and any defense would be able to tee off on this offense. If that is the product we roll out in 2023, we will be hard pressed to win more than a couple of games.
This is literally the opposite of everything we've been hearing out of spring ball, and exactly why most think Sims will win the job, because of his athleticism. Also there was some option football out there yesterday. So yeah, think you're way off here.
Ahh. I didn't know that. I thought it was odd, but so much has changed since I first started watching football in 1971, I don't doubt that I'd get used to it.

So not something the NCAA is looking to adopt for '23? Not another rule change I missed?
No, NCAA not changing this year. Although I'd be pretty surprised if this isn't adopted at some point. Great way to keep the kickoff in the game but reduce those full speed head on collisions. I'm not an XFL fan, but it's a great place to try and innovate.
Dreading that game in Boulder. Neon will beat us soundly and get a $100 million extension.
I don't see how anyone can take anything from that spectacle in Boulder yesterday. The only thing it showed me is thank god "Prime" is not our coach.

FG team is a mess. Don't give me the wind excuse, either. Thankfully, our scholly kicker is on board this fall.
OL looked like it usual self for the most part. Didn't get much push, lot of LOS losses, etc. Of course, we had a few starters missing. Did see C Scott downfield blocking and being "ornery" a few times, liked that.
Sims looks real decent. Tougher than his frame projects (or it was bad tackling). Haarberg is a speedster whose throwing needs to improve a lot. Chubba? He definitely is fast and you can tell he slimmed down. But, again, his passing is average.
If the Spring Game is ANY indication, we may have hit some major home runs of D portal additions and the coach. Defense looked way more than solid. They literally did fly around like HCMR had stated many times.

Synapsis?

IMHO, we finally have depth at a majority of the positions. No more will we have to use QB #2 and lose to N. Ill, Troy, etc. where if we ahd sort of QB depth, we would of won those games.

Like a pollster above said, this is a total, not-going-to-happen-overnight, rebuild. 6 wins and a Bowl and ANY MORE WINS is nothing but gravy.

But, as many have said, the future looks brighter (at least brighter than it has for 5-6 years, IMO).

About what I expected, saw some good, some bad, and a lot of potential, but a lot to work on. The first drive in this spring game is the only one I really put any weight too, that is when what the coaches feel are the best offensive, and defensive players are on the field playing together, after that, they start mixing, and matching. I was mildly impressed with both sides of the first drive, I think we have a chance to win some games with what they showed.

Not for this year but I would expect 2 years or so. Seems pretty cool and safer.

Our defense looked really good imo and obviously ahead of the offense. Lets remember that there’s usually a big difference between your starting QB and the backups. What would the offense have really looked like had Sims played the entire game? I honestly think many are jumping to conclusions based on an extremely small window using dozens of players that will not be starters. Before I start talking about a losing season I’m going to sit back and watch how things play out the first 3 games. GBR

That deon love fest playing out on ESPN yesterday made me physically ill.

Did it occur to anyone that maybe our defense played well? If we were ripping off consistent 20 yard runs everybody would be bitching about our run defense. You can’t have it both ways.
Exactly. It's so hard to take anything out of spring games for just that reason. Definitely things to clean up but this is a team that's also going to have a lot of new pieces joining this summer as well.

Yes it was just a spring game. I’m just really surprised that any discussion regarding the play is immediately shut down by posters. It wasn’t a good look so far. Accept it like the coaches probably do to determine where improvements are needed. A break away from the koolaid and the never ending koolaid tweets that constantly get posted…..often multiple times might be a good break. Nobody is saying this is the end product. But anyone watching that game should have honestly been able to notice how poorly we looked in the execution department. EVen for a spring game.
I completely agree. I hate the, head in the sand, mentality. It wasn’t impressive. Nothing wrong with stating that.
