I hate to say it but…

It's a little too early to declare the sky is falling. If one of the teams (red or white) would've rolled up 60 points, some would whine that the defense is terrible. If neither team scored, some would whine that the offense is terrible. Remember, several of the players on the field yesterday won't be playing meaningful snaps come the fall.

To put a finer point on it, 75% of the players on the field yesterday won't be playing meaningful snaps this fall.

I know our fanbase is eager for rapid, obvious, earth shattering improvement, but good grief. First Spring game after 14 practices and some where expecting something other than what we saw yesterday? Wow.

I was hoping for better WR play. Lots of drops. Sims can throw well enough. Casey will push him and we'll have 2 good qb's.

There was more passing than I expected given Rhule's comments and the wind. That could be a factor that our OL just isn't good enough to run block well right now.

I expected the OL to look poor. Missing starters and they really haven't been good.

Defense was fun to watch.

While we all would like to see a quick turnaround, this is a spring game with a completely new system being installed. Are people expecting a finished product already? With the horrible product we have been putting out on the field for years, this is not going to be a quick fix. The sky in not falling. Give this staff time to work their magic and develop the talent. I am reserving any comment to the first game of the year.

It looked a little like the same ol offense. Not much of a running game, too many turnovers, lots of errant throws, quarterbacks running for their lives. Kicking game didn’t wow me either. I’m still hoping for the best, but this isn’t going to improve overnight.

For those of you prone to start a statement "I hate to say it....". please just don't. You already started by saying you hated to say it... please stop. No body wants to hear why you feel so inclined, just rest assured that when you knew you hated to say it, well, we all hated to hear it as well.
Sometimes things it's hard to say things that need to be said and hear things that need to be heard. Rhule has established a pattern; he starts off slow and builds up. He intentionally brought in young coaches so he could train them. This is a red flag if you expect overnight success. He's trying to establish a culture. At this point, I believe they are still at least 10 scholarships over the limit. More than likely that means 10 guys who were on the team last year won't be this year.
Sometimes small changes can produce big results, but only after the big changes have already been made. We've suffered through 6 losing seasons in a row. We're in a major rebuild the hardest part of which will be the establishment of a winning culture.
So yes, look for positives but don't let that fool you into thinking this nightmare was just a blip. Despite all the money poured into this program, we have a long way to go. Rhule won 3 games combine in his first years at Temple and Baylor. There's no reason to believe he won't start slow at NU as well. Six wins and a bowl game are the ceiling in year 1. Anything beyond that is gravy.

The spring game in a coaches first year is similar to the stress test on Bar Rescue. Rhule needs to see what he's working with, where the strengths and weaknesses are, so he knows what areas to focus on. It's why he was out on the field behind the offense for some of the plays to get a different look at things.

Let's just hope Rhule is our John Taffer

Rhule didn't have over night success at Temple or Baylor, and I'm guessing he won't have it a NU either. My only expectation is that he little-by-little will clean up the wasteland left from the last head coach whose name shall not be spoken. That may take some time.

For year one I am hoping to see player development, a team that plays sound fundamental football and smarter coaching decisions. That last point should be the easiest.

Agree on the QB's, and the defense. I think the rest was about what I expected for a Spring game.

I had the sound turned off and was trying to figure out what the deal was with the kickoffs. Is that a Rhule thing for the Spring game, or some new NCAA rule for player 'Safety'?

It's the XFL kickoff, used to reduce injuries and keep the kickoff still in the game. According to the announcer, the NFL is looking into adopting some format close to that. I kind of liked it.

The only thing that I did not expect to see was the fumbles. Most of them appeared to be either bad exchanges or poor ball security when running the football. I suppose you could counter some of them as being great tackling but not many. Every thing else I saw I chalk up to it being a spring game with lots of non-starters and role players intermingled with players who will be major contributors on a team just learning what the heck they are going to do, If you take away the turnovers nothing else surprised me.

The exchange fumbles are a result of lots of QB/RB and centers IMO. The chemistry wasn't there.

Need better handling but I think that will come with starters playing together more.

Yes it was just a spring game. I’m just really surprised that any discussion regarding the play is immediately shut down by posters. It wasn’t a good look so far. Accept it like the coaches probably do to determine where improvements are needed. A break away from the koolaid and the never ending koolaid tweets that constantly get posted…..often multiple times might be a good break. Nobody is saying this is the end product. But anyone watching that game should have honestly been able to notice how poorly we looked in the execution department. EVen for a spring game.

I know some fumbles on the snap were due to playing several new centers. Obviously they're trying to find a solid backup to Ben Scott. The FB bumped the ball on a RPO, a defender punched the ball out of I think Allen's arms on another.
