That’s really a loss the team seems to have been begging for since the Maine series, so we take it, learn and move on. Hate to lose these chippier games against neighborhood rivals, much like the Oklahoma contests in the Regional a couple years back. Leads me to think that the team doesn’t really respond all that well to Will seemingly losing his sh** and maybe he could learn something from Fred’s sideline demeanor and the confidence it conveys. The good leader is going to presume a degree of poor calls that go against you and roll with it in a more contained manner (especially at 26-6). The Cale call wasn’t that bad, if bad at all, but the emotion was residual from the clear strikes Ryan DIDN’T get an inning or so prior. Onto the opportunity in Eugene!

If you want to chastise a coach, talk about Billy Martin, not Will Bolt. This is baseball, man! If you can't go out there and stick up for your kids because an umpire has no gumption to get on the "other" team, then you don't belong in baseball. I would have no respect for Will, if he just sat back and let the umpire not do his job, but let the visiting team get away with poor sportsmanship.
This is not tiddlywinks.

With all respect to the views and opinions of this steadfast group, so which is it? “Not tiddlywinks” or “there’s no room for this [KU’s antics] in baseball”? I’m a traditional, let your play do the talking guy, and hate chirpiness and taunting. KU’s pitching staff surrendered 30 runs to what could be a good Utah team last weekend and we scored three at home (in weather we’ve scored plenty in). We didn’t appear to respond well to it and we should acknowledge that instead of saying they were mean (or a**holes, take your pick). We had chances and batters went 0-for-9 in the last three ABs. It’s baseball, you’re gonna lose some. But showing you can be potentially rattled, at home of all places, and complain about it, isn’t the look of a regional host. Bolt’s their baseball coach, not their therapist. The point of the game is the W.

So, onto Eugene and the opportunity ahead.

Easy for me as a former soldier….

I realized a long time ago that words can’t really hurt you…. Maybe sting a little bit….but they’ll never really hurt you.

Young kids just haven’t realized that yet. So it’s harder on young athletes.

But I also maintain there’s no place for it in Sports.

Because it goes against everything that “sports” is supposed to represent.

You know…those two words….

Good Sportsmanship.
