First chance for the Huskers to play in Creighton’s home gym. Should be fun to see who stars this week. Kudos to DBK to get three good matches when Devaney is not available.

There was some discussion during the match about 5 years to play 5 maybe getting done by this fall. If that is the case what does this mean for the seniors. Would Nebraska seniors want to stick around for another year if that is possible.

I don’t know. If the four stayed it would create issues for underclass athletes who want to play sooner, and issues for roster limits. I don’t like it.

The change can make things difficult when it happens. Once the 5 for 5 is in place everyone will know what to expect so no surprises, but that first year can shake things up and not always for the good. When you have good chemistry you hate to mess it up.

While there is professional volleyball it's not quite the same as football and the NFL. College players may be making a lot more money playing in college, at least at places like Nebraska or Texas, than in pro volleyball so if they have a chance at an extra year they may want to take it.

All that being said I can think of someone on the softball team I wouldn't mind coming back for another year.

But I think she is in her fifth year already (medical redshirt) so she wouldn’t qualify.
The effect of 5 for 5 certainly differs by sport. In football and men’s basketball, the pros pay more so stars already leave before their fourth year. But in sports where well payed pro leagues don’t exist, especially women’s sports where everyone seems to graduate in less than four years, I could see the fifth year just being a portal bidding war.
But if our 4 senior volleyball players stayed for 2027, I could certainly see current players and class of 2027 recruits deciding to go elsewhere. And if roster limits stick, DBK would have to “encourage” players to move — but other schools in the same boat won’t have space.

Right now, we only have 16 on the roster and are allowed up to 18, so there is room for Dani to adjust the roster if necessary. If this proposed new rule passes, I think the 4 seniors would stay. They are making more money at Nebraska than they would make as pro rookies.

The two players currently on the roster that would be most hurt by this would be Skyler Pierce and Kenna Cogill. If the 5 to play 5 passes, those two might leave. Honestly, those two might end up leaving anyway because of lack of playing time.
