Huskers To Host Regional (28 May-1June)

So uncharacteristic of this season as to the errors on basic fundamentals carrying over from last night. Highest seed in the region at home, and it has felt the entire weekend Nebraska is actually the third seed. Very tough region but to be expected with a #13 seed but Nebraska is beating themselves.

Also have been wondering most of the season is if Childress is the best they can do for a pitching coach? That is coming to be a big question after this weekend.

NU looked like the third seed in this weekend. ASU scared me more than Ole Miss. Going to hope UCLA makes it to Omaha.

Ouch.

We are not ready for prime time.

Fizzled in both the Big Ten tournament and our regional. Couldn't have asked for a better setup for both with games close to home, but didn't matter.

I think that's just life in Big Ten baseball. Too many games against rotten competition that don't prep you well for the postseason.

Bummed for the ending, but hard to complain about the diamond seasons, women and men both. Post mortems will come, but hopefully thinking reload not rebuild in both cases, with some artillery upgrades where we can use them. Jordy and Dylan will be tough to replace, for sure.

Thanks to the teams for the great seasons and the devoted fellow travelers here. Still planning on a trip in for the CWS from the west coast, so hoping wounds mostly healed by then.

GBR!

Not our day for the Ball teams…

But I really hope people focus on what was accomplished this year instead of pointing fingers and kicking the dirt over what ifs or coaching errors or ….whatever.

Friccken AMAZING seasons….and brought Lincoln back into the “hosting world”……:Mfclap:

The future for both is bright!

Congratulations to those Student Athletes that gave it their all for NU!

The long hours of practice….the long road trips and the sheer volume of contests….

Baseball alone played 60 games….60! Let that sink in….all the while trying to be a successful student.

I don’t know how they do it and I tip my cap.:Salute:

We love you guys and gals….THANK YOU!

And…..there is always next year!

GBR! :Huskerflag:

Big Ten is getting better…. It’s just not “there” yet. West Coast teams have helped a lot, but until more of the traditional Big Ten schools start to put emphasis on baseball…..

You may be correct…. I hope not.

He is taking Local talent and turning them into excellent starters in big-time college baseball.

FB….I just disagree…. I think he’s a gem and we are really fortunate to have him.

And I think you’re really going to see it next year when that crop a very young pitchers we have that didn’t see much action this year….solve our middle relief problems.

I think he’s really good at development…. But development takes time.

Baseball America said that we were unfortunate to draw those two teams as they are long ball teams, and extremely unpredictable.

I agree. Just bad matchups for us….not so much the first two games with Jasa or Ty Horn. But both Blaskey and Cooper attack the zone….. They are not really finesse pitchers….yet.

And that’s the long ball hitters dream. You saw the results today in four home runs.

We were also very uncharacteristic on defense…. Surprising at how well we have played at home this year..

Baseball….darn it.

But it was a superb year! So I’m focusing on that!

Great kids!….. the kind you’d want your Granddaughter to bring home for dinner.

And so many great memories!

The Sun Belt/West Coast teams have an obvious advantage and our record doesn’t mean as much when playing them—as witnessed over the past few days. We’re still very good for a “northern team” but tough to compete with schools that can play year round.

I hope so. Just seems like after Ty, Carson and J'Shawn, there was a significant drop off with consistent pitching and it really shown it's ugly head last night and today.

I’d put Gavin in that mix too. Not sure if it was nerves, heat, or flu but he emptied his stomach 4 times in the first inning and kept slinging it.

Some of those regional scores looked like football scores! 17, 19, 21 runs. It’s just tough for northern teams to get the players needed. I am glad I saw NU in the CWS both times they made it. Not sure it will happen again.

Agree that he was also one of our top pitchers this year but just overshadowed by a couple of bad outings which I get will happen. Thank you for providing some context into Gavin's situation yesterday. I take it you had some inside information?

From an analysis standpoint which was frustrating and frustrating to him you could see was the umpire not giving him that high outside corner. Have noticed it all year that pitchers must pitch to conform to too much of an inconsistent strike zone from home plate umpires. It happened yesterday where he had to force the pitches more over the plate. This was evident in the second home run he gave up. That was on the umpires inconsistent strike zone.

Listened to the game traveling on Friday and having to use J'Shawn really impacted the rest of the weekend. No fault of anyone or nothing to be critical about it, just as a result of all the balls being hard hit but at someone in the early innings. Those get thru and more runs early in the SDSU game, J'Shawn likely would not had to have been used.

Agree with John that there is a lot to like going into next year. Have some big holes to fill in the infield and left field but strong starting rotation going into next year.

Also, if I am not correct please tell me but Bolt has only three years on his contract, expect an extension but am almost certain the first question he is expecting is what are his plans to get to the next level of regional finals and a super regional.

Enjoyed the fellowship this year all.

And how is it no one has made mention of UCLA being eliminated!
