Huskers To Hire Tyler Yelk As Safties Coach

I'm going to say this now and hold too it !!
All the Doom and Gloom so far this Off Season in my opinion is going to motivate this Team and especially the Coaching Staff.
I feel Matt otherwise known as Coach Rhule has had a Chip on his shoulder since the Utah game as well he should!! This is not a Kool-Aid High either its just what I'm seeing and feeling. Those last three games might just have woken Him up from his comfort place!!

Agree. I might go even earlier as to when it started for MR, but even taking deep kicks out of the EZ seemed off.
You dont just throw up your hands, or act in desperation.
I too am looking forwards to next years team play.

and why would he have been comfortable?

He seemed pretty comfy most of the season but after Raiola's injury and the Bottom falling out those last three games it seemed to me that he was / is feeling the heat and somewhat uncomfortable. He was not as happy go lucky at his Press Conferences and even got testy about the reboot question

Even with the safety of MR's outrageous salary his seat is getting warmer imo. Nebraska didn’t have an acceptable season and Nov was a disaster. He knows this team is a long ways away from "make a few more plays” and we’ll be winning more games. We beat how many quality teams last season? We really have many more questions than answers going into 2026! Some of portal additions should GREATLY help our offense while our new DC has a real challenge ahead. I think MR is giving it his best shot but we can only wait to see how it plays out......

He started by seeking consistency, e and DH both. Our inside run game was the only thing consistent. DR never full figured out the clock in his head and suffered injury and sacks.
On defense, it was our pass D.
Our new opportunities are much improved this year as to consistency and just raising the floor, both on O and on D.
IMO, our wr room is improved, our O line and coaching, our QB room and what this staff knows as well.
On D, IMO MR does D well and Aurich checks more boxes than JB did. Our D line is more complete, our LB room is improved and the DB room has a high ceiling.
Our one of the youngest teams is a year older, that will help our consistency. I think MR has set himself up for some success

I so hope you’re correct but I’ll believe it when I see it on the field.

I just tend to agree with MR here. Though we didnt have the right players on the D line, we did have players there. No big bodied guys, so you change things up and not wait til next year. Aurich imo has role players, not perfect players. Answers not perfect solutions. As a whole it works very well.
We have mobile QBs now, that DH' wheelhouse.
This years team just seems to be a better fit. What that means on the grass is to be determined.

A Nebraska coach’s seat is pre-warmed before they arrive. To the extent salary constitutes “safety”, I think MR is pretty safe regardless of what happens. The only thing the program can take away from him is the honor of coaching at Nebraska, something he appears to value greatly.

Well, one of the questions that was answered was whether it’s better to play in November with a true freshman “mobile” QB or a veteran QB. Some thought that once DR went down, the offense would be unstoppable. Unfortunately, MR had no choice but to engage in that experiment and it didn’t really work out well.

The end of season shuffle confirmed that the only reason Donavan was the o-line coach at Nebraska was to please the Raiola family. And the only reason Dayton had an offer at QB was the same. Hopefully, MR learned from that and now understands that one position you can’t compromise on is o-line. It probably wasn’t completely Donavon’s fault as injuries certainly played a part. But 20/20 hindsight suggests MR shouldn’t have done that deal. That’s a valuable lesson moving forward if the lesson is digested and learned from. MR himself has suggested that going the freshman development route may have been a mistake and that maybe hiring short term gun slingers is the new normal.

The coaches hopefully also learned that whatever they were doing this year on defense to communicate schemes and plays to their defensive players wasn’t apparently working. Why it worked for the first 1/2 of the season and suddenly collapsed is a mystery only the coaches can answer. Hopefully, they have figured that out and are taking steps to shore it up.

Rhules seat isn’t warm. They can’t afford his buyout, along with Dannen, and everyone else that will have to go, should it reach that point. Dannen is a total idiot, and would need to be the first one outta there. As to the OP, let’s see it? Rhule hadn’t really shown anything as far as being an excellent game day coach. It’s quite the opposite in fact. I can’t think of one game, where excellent coaching won NU the game? Not saying it isn’t possible to turn things around, but I’ve not seen much to suggest he will either, chip or not.
