Nebraska will open the 2025 campaign as the No. 24 team in the country, as D1Baseball unveiled its preseason rankings on Monday morning.

The Huskers are coming off a Big Ten Tournament title and their sixth NCAA Regional appearance since 2014 after going 40-22 (16-8 Big Ten) in 2024.

Nebraska is one of two Big Ten teams in the Top 25, with Oregon sitting at No. 12. Texas A&M received the top spot in D1Baseball’s poll, followed by No. 2 Virginia and No. 3 LSU.

The No. 24 ranking is first appearance in the Top 25 for the Huskers this preseason. Perfect Game’s Preseason Poll was released earlier this month, while preseason rankings from USA Today and NCBWA have yet to be released.

Just start the West Coast and Southern opening games with a bang.

Long season…over 50 games….but if the Huskers start hot against “Southern Schools”….

Usually good things happen.

Besides doing well in the conference….I really would like to see improvement in those mid week games that were such a bugaboo last year.

MUCH tougher schedule his year.

UCLA
USC
Oregon State
Pepperdine
UC Irvine
San Diego State
Sam Houston
Grand Canyon
LSU
Vanderbilt

These are all very fine Baseball programs…..

Will be interesting to see to see how the Huskers do.

“Sisters of the poor”…..these guys ain’t!

I think this helps Big Ten baseball a whole lot and I think it’s just what the doctor ordered for our kids….

Who “played down” so badly to lesser opponents, but did quite well against good opponents last year.

Interesting article about college baseball in the New York Times “The Athletic.”

It’s paywalled so I will summarize.

Interviewed 20 current college coaches…. Literally the Who’s Who of college baseball coaches. Guys like O’Conner from Virginia who grew up in Omaha and several other ACC and SEC school coaches.

Baseball is entirely different than college football as there are 313 division one baseball programs and some of the smaller schools are just incredible powerhouses. Schools you’ve never heard of…. Dallas Baptist, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Fullerton…etc. nevertheless…..the ACC and SEC dominate.

These coaches were asked who their favorite players were over all their years of coaching and playing against players from other teams as well.

These guys named about 25 players from all their careers and interestingly enough…

Two were Nebraska boys…Darin Erstad and Joba Chamberlain…..in pretty heady company.

Also said that Big Ten baseball was going to start to become a very competitive league with the addition of the four West Coast schools, specifically Oregon, UCLA, and USC….Big Ten money…..and schools like Penn State with absolutely no baseball history have emerging programs.

Interesting and fun season coming up!

I moved back to NE this year, and I’m getting my season tickets today!

This is as excited as I’ve been about NU baseball in years. Super Regionals or bust this year! That may be a bit too high of hopes, but I think there is a good shot at us hosting a regional.
Hey, like John Cook said the other day "DREAM BIG!"

First....Hello John from Virginia!

Interesting rotation to start the season and expect it to change. Ty Horn will be interesting to watch, curious that he is getting the start against Vandy.

Really want to see Jackson be consistent this year with his potential.

Drew Christo again coming out of the pen.

Will be a fun year, a lot of potential, but much harder schedule, should bode well for post season RPI

Has the B10 fixed the baseball scholarship handicap they had put on themselves?
I don’t know. There was an article in the athletic this morning about how baseball coaches were dealing with the roster caps, but I didn’t see the Big Ten specifically mentioned.
