Huskers Offer Grad Transfer CB Akayleb Evens

OK I need to ask...why? I am sure the young man is good. That seems to be the one room that does not need help.

Because CB is indeed a position we need help in

Expects us to bring in one CB and one OLB from the portal to fill out the last two slots

He could come in and compete for playing time/starter opposite Cam

I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one. I know that we do not have a ton of experience on the other side. I did see some real talent in the spring game. Not the least of which was the very impressive walk on Sanford. Who we have since discovered is every bit as athletic as he appeared on that game.

Agreed. I don't see him coming in and starting this year.

Of all the coaches I trust though Fisher might be at the top. If he thinks this kid is good enough, bring him in. Fisher has been killing it in the coaching department.

I'd think they know what they see and what they need so this is one of those 'defer to the staff' issues imo.

To me, I believe he has 2 years, and this isnt just only for this year, as we lose a lot next, with likely little experience, but good potential, but after that, we are inexperienced.
A good transitional player, where when we finally get older and experienced, will be seen as a solid move going forwards, its just now, it seem we have riches, this is a move to keep those riches IMO

I was told before spring that corner and OLB they were going to be looking for a grad transfer. OLB I get, we need that "do all" guy that can stay on the field, we are situational at the OLB spot opposite Domann.

I struggled a bit with corner. CTB has one spot locked up, and guys like Newsome, Clark, Joseph, and Lynum have showed flashes. But if you break those down, Newsome was injured most of last year (he is the leader in the clubhouse to start), so behind him you have Clark who is coming off a knee injury and hurt his shoulder, Joseph was a four star everyone thought would be in the mix to start right away in 2020 but just barely played (not calling him Keem Green because it's too early to write him off but certainly a chance), and Lynum is still a freshman along with the other 3 we brought in.

What it tells me is they have a few guys they are comfortable with, but not sold completely on. If you look at it compared to safety where they have 4 guys they feel good if they had to start them, it makes a bit of sense. And Fisher is the one coach I don't question anymore. While he had some bad luck with his 2020 class, he does so much with what he has it's tough to overlook. With that said, a lot of times if a HC asks a position coach "you want another guy" 99/100 times the position coach is going to say yes.

I am a little surprised they want another corner, but maybe they are thinking that they need an experienced guy for next year -- or they really think the defense is going to be very good, and this is the insurance they need to make sure the secondary is truly the strength of the team.

I'd rather they get a kicker or an accomplished pass rush specialist, but maybe this is what they can find.

Your quote "I know we do not have a lot of experience on the other side"

The coaches obviously see a need to bring in an experienced CB with two years elgability to bolster the room

Thus we agree

He started 9 games at Tulsa in 2020 with 29 tackles, 1 Int and 1 TFL. Cam had 28 tackles for us as just an example

Ton of offers to boot from P 5 schools since he entered the portal too
