Huskers Indoor Track continue with PBs

Nebraska track and field’s final day at the prestigious Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., was highlighted by two titles and a trio of all-time marks.
"Nebraska track and field opened the Tyson Invitational on Friday with three Huskers finishing in the top five of their respective events and six personal-bests recorded.

Henry Zimmerman threw a season-best 22.48m (73-9) to finish second in the weight throw. On the women’s side, Cammy Garabian led the group of three Huskers with a 9th-place finish and a throw of 19.39m (63-7 ½).

Dyson Wicker continues to improve his No. 2 mark in school history as he cleared a personal-best pole vault of 5.56m (18-3) to finish fifth.

Cami Merickel won her heat of the women’s 3000m, running a personal-best 9:38.62.

Abrielle Artley earned 12th in the women’s 400m, running 55.13. Pradeep Senthilkumar was Nebraska’s top finisher in the men’s 400m, placing 20th out of 60 runners with a personal-best 48.13.

The Husker women put four athletes in the top six of the shot put, led by Axelina Johansson getting the event win, throwing 18.32m (60-1 ¼). Kalynn Meyer finished fourth (17.07m, 56-0), and Mine De Klerk (16.78m, 55-0 ¾) and Kellyn Kortemeyer (16.68m, 54-8 ¾) placed fifth and sixth. Kortemeyer’s personal-best throw moves her up to 10th on the Husker all-time list as she is now the fifth current Husker thrower in the top 10. In the men’s shot put, Cade Moran placed fifth with a season-best 18.67m (61-3).

Micaylon Moore won the men’s triple jump with a mark of 15.95m (52-4), while Balvin Israel jumped a PR 14.43m (47-4 ¼) for the 10th-place finish. In the women’s triple jump invitational, Velecial Williams jumped 13.35m (43-9 ¾) to improve her fifth-best all-time Husker mark and earn fourth. Rhianna Phipps placed ninth, 13.00m (42-8).

The Huskers went two, three and seven in the women’s high jump, as Ela Velepec was second (1.80m, 5-10 ¾), Brooklyn Miller was third (1.75m, 5-8 ¾) and Karsyn Leeling finished seventh (1.65m, 5-5). In the men’s high jump invitational, Tyus Wilson led the way, clearing 2.20m (7-2 ½) for fourth. Reid Nelson (2.15m, 7-0 ½) and Mason Kooi (2.10m, 6-10 ¾) rounded out the group of Huskers in eighth and 11th, respectively.

Arina Razina cleared 4.09m (13-5) in the women’s pole vault to place fourth. Kylie Clark cleared a personal-best 4.24m (13-11) in the pole vault invitational, finishing 11th.

Nebraska improved two top five all-time marks and set personal bests in the men’s 800m invitational, as Niko Schultz earned 11th (1:47.42) and Pradeep Senthilkumar ran to 15th (1:48.60).

In the men’s mile, Jack Witte was the top Husker finisher, running a PR 4:05.53 for an 18th-place finish. On the women’s side, Brynna McQuillen ran 4:51.33 for 22nd. "

"Nebraska track and field closed the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Saturday night in Indianapolis, Ind., with a fifth-place finish on the men’s side and sixth-place finish for the women behind four event titles.

The Huskers swept the high jump titles as Jenna Rogers set a meet record, clearing 1.92m (6-3 ½) for the Big Ten gold medal. Tyus Wilson set a new indoor career-best (2.25m, 7-4 ½) earning the event title on the men’s side.

In the heptathlon, Adria Navajon earned his sixth conference title as he scored 5,579 points for the new sixth-best mark in school history. Navajon finished 2nd in the long jump, third in the 60mH and fourth in both the 1000m and the high jump. Brayden Bergkamp and Luke Noland also earned podium finishes as they scored 5,137 points for seventh and 5,076 for eighth. Bergkamp highlighted the day with a third-place finish in the high jump and Noland earned sixth-place finishes in the long jump, 60mH and pole vault.

Axelina Johansson improved her school record and holds the Swedish national record, throwing 19.31m (63-4 ¼) to win the Big Ten Shot Put Championship. Mine De Klerk finished fifth with a throw of 17.46m (57-3 ½), and Kalynn Meyer placed eighth (16.98m, 55-8 ½). On the men’s side, two Huskers earned podium finishes as Maxwell Otterdahl (18.73m, 61-5 ½) and Cade Moran (18.55m, 60-10 ½) came in sixth and seventh, respectively.

Micaylon Moore jumped 15.94m (52-3 ¾) in the triple jump, earning a silver medal and eight points for the Huskers. On the women’s side, Rhianna Phipps earned a bronze medal with a mark of 13.37m (43-10 ½). Velecia Williams added a podium finish of her own coming in fifth, jumping 13.13m (43-1), and Lotavia Brown jumped 12.70m (41-8), placing 12th.

Brynna McQuillen set a new school record in the 3000m, running 9:14.12, earning sixth place. Berlyn Schutz added another sixth-place finish in the mile, running 4:42.76. Niko Schultz claimed a point for the men’s team in the 800m, running 1:49.37 for eighth. "

- Axelina Johansson and Tyus Wilson won National Championship titles as Nebraska track and field wrapped up competition on Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Championships, with the men placing 12th and the women finishing 20th.

Out of 12 Huskers competing, five earned First Team All-America honors and most notably, the women saw three shot putters earn all-american status for the first time in school history and the women had six total all-americans, the most for the Huskers at the indoor championships since 2004.

High Jumper Wilson became the first Husker indoor national champion since 2009, as he cleared an indoor PR and the third-highest mark in school history, 2.28m (7-5 ¾). With the win, Wilson grabbed his fourth first team all-american honor and wrapped up his senior indoor season with six event titles.

Johansson claimed her second shot put national championship and the first Husker indoor title since 2005, throwing 19.28m (63-3 ¼). The school-record holder earned her sixth all-american honor and finished the indoor season with five event titles.

Micaylon Moore saved his best jump for last as he hit a mark of 16.52m (54-2 ½), a new personal best and third-farthest in school history. Moore, the 2024 Big Ten Indoor Champion, was named an indoor first team all-american for the second-straight time.

Jenna Rogers and Mason Kooi joined Wilson as all-americans in the high jump, both finishing 10th. Senior Rogers, the school-record holder, cleared 1.80m (5-10 ¾) to earn her seventh all-american honor. In his first NCAA Championships, Kooi posted a 2.16m (7-1), ending his indoor season on a high note.

Nebraska had two more female shot putters earn top-10 finishes and the all-american status, as Kalynn Meyer placed eighth and Mine De Klerk finished 10th. Meyer’s throw of 17.68m (58-0 ¼) was a personal best and moved her up to fourth all-time in Husker history. De Klerk, the holder of the third-farthest mark in school history, threw 17.15m (56-3 ¼) for her second all-american honor.

Junior Rhianna Phipps placed 13th in the triple jump, jumping 12.98m (42-7), as she was named second team all-american for the fourth-career time. Phipps was the outdoor Big Ten Champion in 2024 and was a first team all-american at the 2024 Indoor Championships.

Maxwell Otterdahl rounded out the group of Huskers with an 11th-place finish in the men’s shot put, throwing 18.81m (61-8 ½) to earn the fifth all-american award of his career.

"Noa Isaia continued his dominant indoor season, throwing 22.12m (72-7) in the men’s weight throw to win the event title and move into fourth in school history. Isaia has won three weight throw titles in a row. Fellow Huskers Brett Schwartz (2nd - PR 20.65m, 67-9) and Seth Schnakenberg (3rd - 20.56, 67-5 ½) completed the men’s weight throw podium sweep. Schwartz' throw tied for 10th in school history.

In the men's mile, the Huskers swept the podium with Gabe Nash taking first with a personal best 4:06.48. Kaleb Sharp ran a PR (4:09.73) of his own to finish second, and Dennis Chapman placed third, running 4:10.35.

Sydney Drevlow ran a personal best 1:33.07 in the women’s 600m on her way to a second-place finish. Luciana Medina added a third-place finish, running 1:33.44.

Kellyn Kortemeyer threw a PR 20.26m (66-5 ¾) in the women’s weight throw to claim second and improve on her No. 4 mark in school history.

Rajer Gurode finished third in the women’s 60m with a time of 7.44. On the men’s side, Ashriel Dixon sprinted to a personal best 6.80 to finish fifth. "

"Jaylee Wingate ran a personal best 2:06.11 in the women’s 800m, earning a sixth-place finish. Sydney Drevlow added a PR of her own, running 2:10.24.

The Big Red took first in the women's 4x400 (Abrielle Artley, Victoria Aransiola, Sakena Massiah, Kelsie Belquist), running 3:37.11."

Douglas started off the day in Indiana winning the women’s shot put title, throwing 16.47 (54-0 ½).

"Johansson won the women’s shot put invitational title with a mark of 18.83 (61-9 ½). Mine De Klerk threw 17.78m (58-4), locking in a third-place finish.

Moran added another shot put title in the men’s invitational, throwing 20.02m (65-8 ¼). Hencu Lamberts finished in fifth with a mark of 18.41m (60-4 ¾).

Leeling cleared 1.86m (6-1 ¼) in the women’s high jump invitational, winning the event title and tying for sixth in school history. Ela Velepec followed closely behind, clearing 1.83m (6-0) to finish second.

Kooi cleared a season’s best 2.19m (7-2 ¼) to win the men’s high jump invitational. Desire Tonye Nyemeck cleared 2.07m (6-9 ½), finishing in third."

Arina Razina earned a second-place finish in the women’s pole vault invitational, clearing 3.95m (12-11 ½).

Grant Wasserman led off the action in Arkansas with a third-place finish in the men’s 5000m, running 14:45.22.

Ashmika Korala used a season’s best mark of 15.59m (51-1 ¾) to earn a seventh-place finish in the men’s triple jump.

Both Dennis Chapman (4:06.92) and Kaleb Sharp (4:07.09) ran personal bests in the men’s mile finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. On the women’s side, Alea Hardie added a PR of her own, running 4:52.67."

Nebraska track and field wrapped up the final day of the 2026 Big Ten "Indoor Championships bringing home three gold medals and three Championship records. The Husker women ended with 63.5 points, good for fourth and the best finish since 2014, while the men ended in ninth with 39 points.

Rhianna Phipps was the first Husker to claim gold on the weekend with her championship record mark of 13.62m (44-8 ¼ in the women’s triple jump. Axelina Johansson (19.47m, 63-10 ½) was the second Husker to win gold with a championship record shot put performance. Dyson Wicker was the final Husker to win gold with his men’s pole vault title.

Johansson added her fifth Big Ten gold medal to her already stacked resume, throwing a Big Ten Championship record, 19.47m (63-10 ½), en route to win the women’s shot put title. Mine De Klerk (18.48m, 60-7 ¾) followed just behind with a silver medal finish. The senior from Welkom, South Africa set the South African national record and moved into second in school history. In her Big Ten Championship debut, Jolina Lange added a sixth-place finish, throwing 16.45m (53-11 ¾). The trio combined for 21 points. "
Wicker brought out his best performance when it mattered most, clearing a Championship record 5.79m (19-0) to win gold. The sophomore finished second at last year’s conference championships in his debut.

Phipps added to her gold medal count winning her second triple jump title after jumping a championship record of 13.62m (44-8 ¼). Phipps now sits in second in school history and holds the third-best mark in the NCAA this year.

In the men’s shot put, Cade Moran added to the medal count earning bronze with a throw of 19.87m (65-2 ¼). Hencu Lamberts (18.81m, 61-8 ½) used a lifetime-best throw to add a point for the Husker men in his first championship appearance with an eighth-place finish.

Berlyn Schutz ran 4:38.63 in the women’s mile final, earning a bronze medal. This is the second medal Schutz has won in her career after finishing in third at the Big Ten Indoor Championships in 2024.

Xavier Bogan grabbed a fourth-place finish in the men’s triple jump after putting up a personal best distance of 15.80m (51-10) in his first Big Ten Championship appearance."

Nebraska track and field secured six USTFCCCA First-Team All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., Saturday. The women's team finished tied for 12th with 19 points and the men tied for 26th with 11.

Axelina Johansson highlighted the day by winning her third career national championship in the women’s shot put with a throw of 19.55m (64-1 ¾), over a meter farther than second place. Johansson claimed her sixth career medal and eighth All-America award.

The senior from Hok, Sweden has now won back-to-back indoor shot put national titles and owns the NCAA record (19.72m, 64-8 ½).

Senior Mine De Klerk added fifth place in the women’s shot put, throwing 17.86m (58-7 ¼) for her best career NCAA finish. The South African earned first-team All-America honors for the second time in her career. Amelia Flynt finished 16th, securing second-team honors with a throw of 15.16m (49-9).

On the men’s side, Cade Moran used a monster personal best of 20.40m (66-11 ¼) to earn a bronze medal and first-team All-America honors at his first career NCAA Championship.
The sophomore women’s high jump duo of Karsyn Leeling and Ela Velepec showed out, tying for seventh after both clearing 1.85m (6-0 ¾) on their second attempts. The pair earned first-team All-America honors for the first time in their careers.

Rhianna Phipps added a seventh-place finish of her own in the women’s triple jump final, jumping 13.37m (43-10 ½). Phipps earned first-team All-America honors for the second time in her career.

The senior from St. Thomas, Jamaica won the Big Ten triple jump title with a mark of 13.62m (44-8 ¼) in February.

Berlyn Schutz rounded out the day with a ninth-place finish in the women’s mile final, running 4:42.35. Schutz claimed second-team All-America honors at her first career NCAA Indoor Championships.
