Huskers host Bluejays - Tuesday - 4/13/26 - 6 pm CDT - Haymarket Field

Horn going to the pen now. I knew he'd be moved from Friday--Bolt was quite public about not getting long outings out of the Friday night guy. Just didn't know if he'd be moved to Saturday or Sunday starts, or the pen. Maybe this move will also bolster an erratic pen.

It will bolster the Pen…a lot…and it seems to me if Caleb is limited to an inning….maybe an inning and a half he is very effective.

Bender is a 3 run disaster at the moment..every time. And I think it’s simply an experience problem…and when called on for a strike he either cannot…or he throws an incredible fat pitch. Same for Olsen. I do think they will get better with age but maybe not this year.

Blasky as a starter on Friday? I guess we will see.

And who starts the midweek? At this point…do we even care about the midweek? Pitch by committee like Creighton does?

Our Middle Relief is our Achilles Heel and guys like Harahill, Worthley, Cleavanger, Unger will have to really step up. And Mannell….Lordy…I was told he was brought in to be a “closer” but he has been spotty as heck. Tucker a nice surprise…seems very solid this year.

Ty is actually pretty good as a starter….rarely gets blown up early. What I have noticed is he is pretty strong for 4 innings…5th is shaky and the 6th folks start to beat him up. And lately with a long season…he looks tired in the 4th.

He might be superb as that middle reliever who can finish a game or go 3-4 when things have gone south early.

Unger looks solid as the closer.

Exciting!…. lots of challenges!

Big series this weekend…. I hate to say a “season maker” because that’s really not true in baseball because once you get into the tournaments you can get hot and who knows….look at last year…

Whatever….one game at a time…..win the series move on…

GBR!!

John think I read you didn't watch last night's game but Bender started last night's game and barely lasted an inning which he gave up three runs.

Timmerman and Clark came in before Horn and pitched very well. Wish Timmerman and Clark were each given one more inning. Was really surprised the score ended up 5-4 and was less than a three hour game. Pretty much no runs after the 4th inning.

Timmerman would be a good Tuesday starter but think Bolt is wanting committee. I don't think they were expecting Bender to blow up in the first inning. Think with some pitchers with preparation and mind set they might be better in relief and closing roles rather than starting? That was what was impressive about Horn's three innings last night in relief with pitching innings five through seven.

I didn’t see the game you are correct. I was helping my son fix a broken washing machine that had leaked all over….. what fun!

Bender and Olsen just don’t seem ready for NCAA level play…. And last night was not the first time Bender has given up a bunch of runs..

I have watched them both and just think they need to get stronger…. Keep developing..

Bender will get two strikes on a batter and then just can’t put them away and wind up serving up a really fat pitch on a 3-2 count. Or he just can’t find the strike zone….. same with Olson.

This is not a knock on the kids…. They’re just not performing at the level they need to at this point in their young careers.

I agree with everything you said above….

What is exciting to me is I can’t remember us being in mid April and almost a 30 game winner.

This team has some weaknesses, but this team is good!

John, you obviously meant Unger, not Bender as the closer in your comment above. Bender looked good real early in the year, pretty shaky lately, which tells me it's possibly more mental than physical. He needs some confidence. As for Ty coming out of the pen, I'm all for it. He's as fiery a guy as we have, he can change the trajectory of a game. It's not too late to push some buttons and see if something clicks. This is a pretty good ball club, we need to start gaining some momentum going into the postseason and see what happens. GBR!!!

Pretty hard to make the bolded comments match up. A committee means you are throwing 6-8 guys out there and with the struggles of the pen this year, almost a guarantee that 2 or 3 of them are not going to be sharp on that night. That can lead to giving up 6 or 8 runs on a consistent basis. Really need that mid-week starter to give 3 or 4 so that the BP is fresh for weekends and you can still be successful in those midweek games.

I hear you…but Creighton has done that for years….at least in their mid week…they made it to the NCAA last year and have always given us trouble.

Maybe their overall quality of relievers has been slightly better over the years or maybe their coach just goes against any normal pitching procedures.

In the end though….I agree with you….if we can find someone who can give 4 solid innings in the midweek…we should be just fine…Our bats will carry us.
