Huskers hire Dana Holgorsen as Offensive Consultant

I have no idea what to think of this. Firmly in show me mode the rest of this season, and at this point, I don’t feel like enough adjustments can be made with the time left.

That’s fair.

What it looks like to me is a head coach and a staff that isn’t going to stand pat and ‘fix it in film’.

They’re looking for more wins throughout the rest of this season, or they’d just put it off to the off season.

That's great but right now it's more about the Jimmy's and Joe's rather than X's & O's. I agree with Rhule the players need to play. Motivation only goes so far players need to have drive and want to. Against UCLA that wasn't it.
We may not have championship calibre Jimmy's and Joe's, but with the right X's and O's, 3* guys can look like 4* guys. Exhibit A: how many opposing nominal QBs have looked like Heisman winners against NU for last decade or so.
It's hard to motivate yourself if you think the OC's gameplan will be more of the (unsuccessful) same. An injection of new blood can mean new energy.
I've let coach Rhule know I'm in favor of the hire. (j/k, I told him to do it. )

I don't know his history well, so I need to ask an honest question. What makes us think that he can turn the offense around when he was fired by Houston (his last employer) last year? Is he the type of guy who is a great OC but maybe not so great as a head coach?

The bolded is spot on.

He’s a brilliant offensive mind, that struggles with the rest of the Head Coaching duties.

Sounds like our previous HC.

Look no further than Lane Kiffin. Potentially the same paths. Lane couldnt HC at all, then went to Bama and started tuning it around.

He's a consultant. I suspect he's going to sit in on all of our team meetings and help with preparation. Actual play calling will still fall on Satt's head. Not sure about the latest rules but they used to not be allowed to be around on game day to do anything other than observe.

I’m going to go ahead and Google to see if I can find the connection from Holgerson to Rhule that would qualify as a ‘Buddy Hire’, since that has to be the case.

Hold onto your hats folks!
I'm very happy Rhule is taking some kind of action, even if it were another buddy hire (ok, I'd bitch about it some, but still be happy Rhule at least did something.)
I don't know wether it will pay off big time by the USC game or even the rest of the season; even a small measure of success would be welcome.
