Huskers hire Dana Holgorsen as Offensive Consultant

I recall seeing a quote from an opposing defensive player saying that NU was easy to game plan for (due to their lack of diversity on offense).

The quote came from an Ohio State corner. It was something to the effect that we ran the same routes they’d seen on film. I don’t think that’s really unique. Most teams don’t change a ton from game to game.

I think he was meaning that we didn't try to run different route concepts out of similar formations so whenever we lined up in a certain formation, he was quickly able to identify what routes were coming

The bye week will help a ton.

Simplification and just putting together a core group of plays we execute well is the first step. Expand on that week to week and we’ll see. Holgorsen can call a perfect game, but we have to improve on execution. Have to.
It won’t be an immediate fix, but over time our execution will improve with DH. He will demand it.

Impossible

Also interesting that Satt is still coaching TEs, a demotion of sorts
He'll also be the highest paid dedicated TE coach in the country. Has to be a little bit embarrassing getting demoted mid season and still on staff. Hard to see him walking away from $1.4 million a year...

I think this is as much (maybe even far more) for keeping recruiting on track and energized as it is for immedicacy. And keeping your 5 star QB interested. Although . . . I think Rhule for sure is making the biggest push possible to win at least one more game and get a bowl.

As you said, it's a tall ask . . . but a move had to be made, IMHO. Satt's offense was awful, predicable and ineffective. We've seen that movie by now.
Holgorsen is a big name offensively. Keeps us in the conversation. If we start scoring and having more explosive plays in the late season it'll pay big dividends in recruiting and in the locker room. No one wants to be on the 94th ranked offense

On the screens and passes into the flat at or behind the LOS, he’s right. Plays down the field, we’ve had some multiplicity, just haven’t executed.

I’m not suggesting those plays need to be completely scrapped, but if we can’t practice them well, don’t call them. Figure out something else to do when we’re seeing man/pressure.
Absolutely! Focus on what we do best, and WHY those are our best plays for our players. Then build off of that WHY (players' strengths) to create "options". I'm confident that our new OCDH can/will work that way.

And I think that the talent that OCDH has with the "art of play calling" will be a positive difference for our offense's performance/results.

I’d say it also speaks to his character.

I don’t know that other coaches would handle it as well and just want to be part of the ‘solution’.

Hopefully this move will help DR regain his confidence as well. Wouldn't surprise me if we find out later on that Dylan & Dom had a sit-down with Rhule. Will be interesting to see if it provides a boost in recruiting as well

IF they did it is not likely that we will find out about it

I'd say it went about as well as a situation like this can go. We have a new OC with some bona fides at this level for a change. Even a wrinkle or two might be the difference between bowling and not bowling.

Satterfield is under contract, so we can pay him to sit home or pay him to try and help the team win some games. And tight ends coach sounds about right.

Three very winnable games left...especially if the offense starts stepping up and making plays.

This move shows that Coach Rhule clearly wants to win now! This is great example of using new rules to your benefit. Even a year ago it would have been unheard of to bring in a high profile OC from outside the program with three games left in the season.

If UNL flips the season with this move, we clearly have Coach "Judo" Rhule on the sidelines!
