The Nebraska volleyball team landed a big commitment from one of the top players in the Chicago area for the Class of 2014.
Outside hitter Maddie Haggerty, who helped lead Benet to the Illinois Class 4A state championship as a sophomore last fall, has given her pledge to become a Husker.
Haggerty had 16 kills in the final to help net the Redwings their first state title, but reportedly will transfer to St. Francis High School in Wheaton, Ill., next year as a junior. She also plays for Chicago’s Sports Performance Volleyball club team.
The 6-foot Haggerty comes from a talented set of siblings and will be the second member of her family to play volleyball in the Big Ten.
Her sister, Meghan, was one of the top senior players in Illinois last year and will be a freshman at Wisconsin this season. Younger sister Molly is a highly regarded outside hitter who reportedly also will join St. Francis as a high school freshman this fall.
