17.02.13 Practice Units. In determining the first permissible preseason practice date, an institution shall count back from its first scheduled contest, one unit for each day beginning with the opening of classes, one unit for each day classes are not in session in the week of the first scheduled intercollegiate contest and two units for each other day in the preseason practice period, except that the institution shall not count any units during the preseason when all institutional dormitories are closed, the institution's team must leave campus, and practice is not conducted.
17.02.13.2 Week. The "week" of the first scheduled intercollegiate contest is defined as the six days, excluding Sunday, preceding the date of competition (even if one or more of the days fall into different traditional calendar weeks).

So, counting back 29 days from our first game on 31 Aug 2019, our first Fall Camp/Pactice day would be 29 July 2019. HUUUUAAAAAAA. Just a little over 12 weeks till NU football starts again!!?

Excluding Sunday seems odd. I'd rather have them exclude from sundown on Friday to sundown on Sunday. That would exclude the Sabbath for every Judeo-Christian participant if that was the consideration.

And just because dorms are closed, shouldn't mean they cannot practice. They already pay scholarships and meal money over summers, the big schools should be able to foot hotel accommodations for new recruits if they can afford it. College students already pay July leases or they wouldn't get good locations, so not everyone would need hotels. Or they could just exclude new recruits until dorms open, stop penalizing everyone.

I personally would like July 1 set as the start date with holidays and weekends excluded. We ran players-run two aday practices starting at that time anyhow.

The plea hearing against sophomore running back Maurice Washington has been pushed to July 25, according to the Santa Clara County Superior Court.
