How critical is the next game and a win/loss effect.

How critical is Michigan State? Well lets examine this with a couple of "rules of guidance" in place.

1. The general rule is that we are trying to get to 6 wins and Bowl eligibility. Some might even call this a benchmark for retaining SF but lets not try to argue that point.

2. While we know that on any given Saturday anything can happen. Lets not talk the extreme rarity of relying on a win against tOSU and keep it within general boarders.

Consequences of a Loss. We lose the momentum that many have argued we have achieved over the last 3 games. Between the players, the coaching staff and the fans it would be devastating and puts us in a position where we still need 4 wins and the 3 most likely.....Purdue, Northwestern and Minnesota all of a sudden look like monster tasks.

Consequences of a win. Going on the road to beat a top 25 team builds on the confidence of all the players and the coaches. From the fan......and even the National perspective it sends a message that SF and Nebraska are not down and out while re-kicking the recruiting interests. More importantly, for chasing 6 wins it now brings not only the three early mentioned teams into play but also Iowa, Wisconsin and yes....even Michigan. Not saying all those would be wins because we beat Michigan State but they all of a sudden look like teams we can compete with.

Given the IL debacle (part deux) . . . really important, IMHO. This team desperately needs 6 wins and a bowl. Missed a golden opportunity to be 3 - 1 by now. Gonna be a tough stretch and this falls into the "reasonably winnable" bucket.

Win it and you are half-way to a bowl and still have a rough path, but it's doable. Get momentum, beat a Top 25 team, gain some more confidence, etc.

Lose it and getting 4 more wins out of the remaining games gets pretty darn scary. Maybe Trev is planning on bringing Frost back no matter what. But have another losing season and no bowl and the room gets pretty toasty. It's time for the Huskers to step up and bite someone. Start now!

As a fan I'm very well accustomed to seeing this team preparing to take the next big step and then tripping on a shoelace and promptly falling flat on their face.
After nearly 20 years of tormenting myself to this circus, I can only muster zero expectations for this team this season. They still can't even find a dude to make a field goal or extra point when the chips are down.

If they go out and handle MSU as needed, it will be a first.

This team has improved on both sides of the ball week to week. Keep improving and the wins will come regardless of the opponent.

If we lose to MSU the fan interest will plummet. The sell out will be over, for all intents and purposes. Worse the players will lose interest and we will be looking at 4wins tops.

If we win 5-6 wins looks doable and maybe a bit more.

This game feels an awful lot like Illinois last year. The team had an emotional, hard fought game the week before, it felt like we were turning a corner, units were starting to gel and play better... and then we saw what happened.

At some point the team has to take another step forward. Beating Sparty would be great for momentum and helping get the team right between the ears.

It’s an important game. Really need to win the game. Win this game, and the team will be brimming with confidence. The possibility of 6 wins grows higher with a win. Lose it? Man, I hate to think of that plot, but it wouldn’t be very good.

I think we over-analyze all the reasons, consequences, etc. It's simply the next game and the next game is always the most important. That's all there is to it. Coaches and players understand this philosophy. Most fans don't.

Re: Scott Frost....he's not going anywhere. His job is not in jeopardy.
This.

But we do need to win this game.
