hire...

Why would he leave Memphis for NU? He coaches in a facility that is better than the one NU's buidling, in a larger market, in an area that's a bigger hot-bed for basketball talent, and has just an easier route to the NCAA's. Plus he makes roughly the same amount at Memphis under his first contract as Doc does with his recent extension and raise.

Edit
Pastner's first contract was 5 years 4.4 mill. He recently signed an extension of his own. 5 years at 1.7 mill PER year. Doc makes 900,000.

Should have gone after him before Memphis picked him up...I was calling for him to be hired back then...

Also it shows that good ol' TO will have to open up his wallet with the jaws of life and pay the market value instead of trying to make a bargain hire.

NU should open up the wallet, but they would have to pay Pastner upwards of 2 mill per year, to get him to leave Memphis. He's not taking less, or the same amount to live a nice gig like Memphis for arguably on of the least successful programs at the major level. No way in the world TO pays that much. Heck, I would be pizzed at TO if he paid that much money.

You're not going to get a guy away from Memphis. As long as he keeps things rolling there he's assured of a couple million a year and regular tourney appearances, relatively strong recruiting, etc. He's a major program in a mid-major league making major money. To get him out of there it's going to be a top level "BCS" program.

When you take over a program like NU you know there's a good chance you're fired in 4-5 years. "Success" would still be less than what he's capable of doing at Memphis. No chance.
