Last years scheme was puzzling to say the least! Butler wasnt a very good DC! At least Rhule realized that and replaced him! Better than sticking with guys like Chinander and Cozgrove!
MR got mad when JB blamed the players. When they werent operating as a well polished NFL defense.
I was extremely disappointed in JB

The end of last season was really sobering. Getting destroyed by Penn St, Iowa and Utah really gave a clear picture of our depth. Losing Raiola obviously hurt badly last year, but that doesn't excuse some of the poor play in other areas.

On to this year, I don't see significant gains based on the current roster. Hope I am wrong.

What is everyone true expectations for the season

I see NU possibly going 5-7 ..... yeah beat the crap out of me . Would not be the first time in 20 years

If its gonna be better then tell me why.

I for one have lst faith in the program Every year so much hype that never shows on the field

Rhule already saying the 2026 team is the best he has seen

I'm not going to put any stock into what the coaches have to say about the team in the preseason. Rhule isn't going to stand up there and shake his head and say, "Man we suck!" How many press conferences did we have to listen to where Frost told us the team had "their best week of practice since he had been there"? Not saying Rhule is lying, but he doesn't gain anything by being brutal honest either.

I think given the tougher schedule this season, we are probably going to be in the neighborhood of 0.500. I hope we turn out better than I expect, but there are a lot of question marks about this year's team that will need to be answered.

Honestly, I haven't the slightest clue what to expect this year.

I thought 8-9 wins was a realistic goal for last year, and had Dylan not gotten injured, we almost certainly would've finished with at least 8. This year, we need to find a way to get 8 wins. Do that, with this schedule, and I'll continue supporting giving Rhule time. We CANNOT have a losing season. There are at least 7 wins on that schedule, they need to start beating the teams they *should* beat, and that includes Iowa. If we get to 8, I'll be satisfied things are moving in the right direction. Anything more than that and I'll be extremely optimistic about 2027.

My expectation is that we will get a lot more idiotic posts like this op throughout the year
What’s idiotic about it? Seriously? It’s the most likely scenario, given its past decade. Can they surprise? Sure, it’s possible. Is it likely? Not really, unless something we haven’t seen happens. I’d lean 70% 6 wins or less, 30% 6 wins or more. It’s fair, given what we’ve all witnessed, unless you just want to leave your head in the sand. Someday NU will pop out of this cycle, but for me, I need to see it first.

This is where I am. I also agree if Dylan does not get hurt we finish 8-4 and don't run into a buzzsaw like Utah.

This year---I see a better offensive line and defense (our two worst coaches were sent packing). We also got rid of the dreadful 3-3-5 I hope.

I will be bold and say we win 2 of Ohio St-Indiana-Oregon-Washington- Illinois- Iowa. At least. Yep. No misprint. I also see a possible loss against MSU/Maryland, however.

Gimme 8-4 and the Kool Aid. To me, that is a successful season and discernible progress.

Sign me up for 8-4 in the regular season right now.

Not predicting it at this point but would definitely take it.

The 3-3-5 would have been a great scheme for Suh. I was worried we weren't going to have good enough size and talent on the D-line to make it work. The real problem ended up being that it highlighted our mediocre linebacker group.

I think that scheme still has a bright future in college football, but I'm happy to see Nebraska go to something more traditional if only because the current coaches have strong momentum recruiting to it.

As we both know, having the Jimmy’s and the Joe’s regardless of system run is extremely important. The 2027 recruiting class is showing that we are getting more high quality players.

I can see a path with them getting to 7, but a battle all the way. I'm not impressed with the opposition except for the obvious teams. I'm counting UW as a win because I think they might just be over-rated, but what do I know?

You know as much as anyone. Usually when prediction time comes around, I read them, shrug, and think well now we know what isn't going to happen. Yes the huskers have a tough schedule but it isn't unusual for any team, good or bad, to finish the season with their #2 or even 3 QB because of injuries. They are as much a part of the game as anything. As any Husker fan knows too well. So, IF the huskers stay healthy, IF their new QB is as good as Rhule seems to think, and IF Oregon, Ohio State, Washington, and/or Indiana under performs maybe, just maybe Nebraska can slip into the new Indiana role and surprise everyone. Fred Hoiberg did it last year...

I just rewatched the NW game. DR only impressed by his accuracy, not his timing, recognition of wrs breaking open and his pocket presence.
Our D line showed effort but were contained, tells me no disruption, planned or otherwise, and I saw very little planned.
Our O line was OK, but too many breakdowns.
We need our DC and scheme to get the most out of our players. I feel fairly good at QB, as DR just wasnt making many plays, he just didnt generate many whereas I see AC doing just that, and some seasoning and ability with our backups.

Wouldn't it be nice to be good enough that other teams' fans are saying, "IF Nebraska under performs?"

I think one could point to Rhule making the most important hire of his time here with Wade as OL coach. Since Rhule has been here, our OL has constantly been subpar due to us pleasing the Raiola family to get Dylan here. You’re never going to win many games if you’re subpar in the trenches. The new DL coach is more of a toss up on whether or not that works out, if it’s like last year, then the defense will struggle again. Though, two of the transfers Aurich brought in are top 15 at their position in the country. Expect the offense to look better with 1. A better OL and 2. A QB who isn’t a statue
