Helton Out At USC

Wow,

Clay Helton was 48-27 at his Alma Mater with 1 losing season in 8 years and coming off a home loss this past Saturday to the Stanford Cardinal.

Though 19-14 since 2018.

There was a large contingency wanting Helton fired in 2018-19.

After getting handled at home against lowly Stanford, I'm not surprised. I'm just surprised it took USC this long to fire Helton.

Early-season or mid-season firings have been USC's M.O. post-Carroll. Kiffin, Sark, and now Helton.

One bad loss was all it took for USC to make the move. USC was 5-1 last year, and they sit at 1-1 this year with a win over a decent SJSU team. Helton had one losing season at USC (2018, I believe).

It will be interesting to see who they get.

Donte Williams now an interim HC... who would have guessed?

Losing to Stanford is like losing to Illinois, completely unacceptable to USC fans/donors.

As a conference loss, its significance is magnified in terms of the goals USC has for the season.

Then when UCLA is going 2-0 across the city, Helton's fate was ordained.

Let the rumors begin as to who USC wants and how much they are willing to pay :)

Amazing. Only one losing record (3 years ago; 5W-7L). Watch out for SF !!!

2020 --- Illinois 41 Huskers 23. At home. SF survived (3W-5L)
2021 --- Trees 42 Condoms 28. At home. CH fired (5W-1L in 2020)

Yep think AD Bohn had seen enough after 2 years and am sure their boosters of substance backed the move. Still somewhat surprising since they were the defending Pac12 South champs. They also opted out of a bowl game last year as well. Will be interesting to see who they go after, they have very deep pockets. Maybe a Head Coach that is tiring of the Pro game perhaps?

Bob Stoops of course, he's about the only coach and not coaching.

Stoops is 60 years old, so he may not be a "long terms answer to USC's coaching issues.

In addition, as any Sooner fan will tell you, he won "only" one National Championship during his tenure in Norman which was always a problem for Sooner fans and wore on Bob who had a tremendous record that "wasn't enough".

Because of that experience Bob may not want anything to do with USC and its expectations.
