Greatest Dynasties of the Modern Era

Trivia question:

20 times Nebraska faced an SEC squad from 1962 - 2001

Name the opponent and year

*LongIslandHusker is disqualified as I'm sure he already knows the answers!

Adds even more emphasis to how far we've fallen.

I'm curious -- maybe look at the largest drop from a great 20-year span to the following 20 years. Something along those lines. Where would Nebraska rank among the biggest falls from an extended period of great success?

This is how phenomenally dominant we really were

40 yrs
1962-2001:

1. Nebraska at 83% {.83264}

a

very

distant

2. Penn St at 76% {.76124}

Consider, also, that with just one exception, there is no discrepancy greater than 2 percentage points separating any two successively ranked teams all the way down the list from #2 Penn St to last place #111 UTEP at 29%

Outside of the difference between NU/PSU, the biggest dip is as follows:

20. Washington at 65% {.65011}
21. Miami-Ohio at 62% {.62933}
And Penn State’s was against hand picked Paterno opposition using his hand picked referees at home.

Can you calculate Alabama's % over that last 40, 50 years? I'm too lazy. They have a rough patch in the late 90s.

Just off the top of my head, how about ranking, with just 3 losing seasons, as the 8th winningest program in the nation over our 1st 51 years of football {1890 - 1940} to ranking, with a whopping 17 losing seasons, as the nation's 126th winningest program over the next 21 years {1941 - 1961}

Thar's quite a fall from grace, no?

The current edition of Ohio State, if they continue at their current pace, will crack the top 20 in a year or two. But that’s it. It’s all NU , with some OU mixed in

Minnesota is #1, as they were a force 70 years ago. They are still trying to get back.

Truly, the two best programs informing the better part of my own lifetime - Nebraska and Oklahoma

With the Huskers coming ahead of the Sooners, of course!

Ok treeplanter, I was a little surprised by the 30 year results. Not that I wasn’t expecting NU to be at the top, but they were actually more dominant than the 40 year results. Here’s the top 10(spoiler- it’s all NU)
NU 1970-1999 .84189
NU 1969-1998 .83832
NU 1971-2000 .83784
NU 1968-1997 .83699
NU 1972-2001 .83243
NU 1967-1996 .82459
NU 1966-1995 .82361
NU 1973-2002 .82124
NU 1974-2003 .82038
NU 1965-1994 .82033
To be fair, the Stassen website only goes up to 2021, so Ohio State 1993-2022 might crack the top 10

The second 10 consisted of 7 more for NU, 3 from Ohio State(all from the most recent teams), and 1 from Alabama(1960-1989). There was a tie for 20th, that’s why there’s one extra. I was just surprised that there weren’t more 30-year runs that were over .800. All told, there were 24(NU had 17 of them). There were 10 40-year runs that were over .800(NU had 9 of them). Not to beat this into the ground, we all know what a great run it was. But truly remarkable, the consistent excellence of those teams
