Good feelings

Had the QB play been up to “below avg” rather than abysmal, we would have a min 7 wins and not even be on this topic. Better coaching wasnt gonna keep them from unforced fumbles or bad decision picks last yr.
I politely disagree. Fans called AM a turnover machine and all of a sudden he went to Kansas State. Prior to his last start before his injury he was the only remaining Quarterback in FBS going into game 7 of the season without an interception thrown. Better coaching helps. Interviews with AM during his fall season he talked about how Chris Klieman and Kline preached ball security in every practice and worked with him with situational throwing.

Nothing specific brought me to write this but as I reflect on last 12 months and the upcoming season I am much more relaxed and optimistic that as a fan base we will have the opportunity to enjoy an entire season of husker football instead of select moments and maybe a few games.

MR is clearly a leader who cares for his players, the fans, his coaches and others in general. My faith in the future is anchored by
  • two top 25 classes along with a lack of churn with top recruits and aggressive roster management
  • two incoming pro style QB's which we rarely have had and need to compete in Big Ten
  • a defense likely to be in the top 10 range nationally
  • MR's decision to shake up offensive coaching staff with a incoming QB coach / co OC role; this was a bold move and just demonstrates that MR holds himself accountable and will take action
So I am enjoying the moment, looking forward to spring ball and thinking about buying tickets to USC game as the last time I was there I took my 9 year old son to watch us play Miami in around 2000. GBR :)
Be careful or you may get accused of having "lofty expectations."

Majority of HM members had a "good feelings" beginning at least 2015. And 2016 ... 2017 ... 2018 ...

For the first two years, I admit Callahan fan and then Riley fan and believe it or not, Frost fan

2024? Well so far undefeated ;)

Excellent post and agree 100% with your assessment

As if a new start with new sraff wasnt tough enuf… we had a series of injuries to key players that was WAY WAY
worse than this team has seen in my memory going back to mid 70s. That handicaps even the best of coaches.

I disagree with this. First of all, all three QBs had difficulties with interceptions. To me, that indicated a high likelihood that there were systemic issues that increased the chance of turnovers. “Systemic” means coaching and scheme. If the QB throws an interception because he “didn’t see” a defender, that’s an indication of incorrect reading of the defense. It’s the QB coach’s responsibility to teach this. If a QB throws an interception because the ball sails due to bad mechanics, it’s the QB coach’s responsibility to teach better mechanics. If the QB throws an interception because of being willing to make high risk throws, it’s the QB coach’s responsibility to teach the QB to be more risk averse. QB play is not just about talent. Coaching matters, a lot, especially at the college level.

At 49% completion rate from our main passing qb, it still leaves it open.

I do hold coaches responsible for 51% of TO's. However, lets focus on HH as he is the only returning QB from the disastrous group.

HH is not capable of checking down to his second receiver. Is that on the coach? I do not think so as it is a skill that some QB's never develop

HH mechanics (kid stands 6'5" but releases the ball like he is 5'9") resulted in multiple interceptions and many incompletions due to tipped balls by DL. Is that on the coach? Yes because he shouldn't be playing him. Correcting HH mechanics would be equivalent to having rotator cuff surgery. It is painful and lengthy

HH is at best a wing T QB but was playing in a offense that requires a drop back passer. round peg in square hole

Goodness!!! If the guy can’t play quarterback the coaching staff should have made the decision to move him to a different position. If he can play quarterback, they should have worked with him to improve his decision-making and mechanics. If he’s a QB, for heavens sake, work with him to maximize his talents. If he’s not, then coach him up at whatever position he is playing. If Haarberg can’t go through progressions to find open receivers it’s totally on the coaches to either teach him how to do that or move him to a position where his athletic talents will help the team.

agreed. move him to TE / Hybrid receiver. He will never be an average P4 QB.

Just compare DR mechanics (footwork, read progressions, release point, touch, etc.) vs. HH. If DR was a 10, HH would be a 2 at best

Satterfield arrived in December 2022. There was plenty of time to work with Haarberg on his throwing motion.
Did Satt know HH wasn't in qb meetings? Wasnt there CT? Wasn't there Chubba? Plans were constantly changing as time went along, and who's to say didn't work on HH? I seem to remember they were some.
This is a major lengthy time consuming change. Satt had three, then two other qbs to work on.
A decision was obviously made when Sims crapped out. Look at Sims pass attempts per game, less the HH.
Last year was a mess, and it wasn't all at the feet of the OC, qb coach, wr coach or rb coach.

I agree that last year was a mess. It was Satt’s job to evaluate the QBs who were available, coach them up and get them ready to play. Didn’t really look like a job well done. This obviously included HH. I don’t think it is a coincidence that Satt is no longer coaching QBs.
