Nothing specific brought me to write this but as I reflect on last 12 months and the upcoming season I am much more relaxed and optimistic that as a fan base we will have the opportunity to enjoy an entire season of husker football instead of select moments and maybe a few games.

MR is clearly a leader who cares for his players, the fans, his coaches and others in general. My faith in the future is anchored by
  • two top 25 classes along with a lack of churn with top recruits and aggressive roster management
  • two incoming pro style QB's which we rarely have had and need to compete in Big Ten
  • a defense likely to be in the top 10 range nationally
  • MR's decision to shake up offensive coaching staff with a incoming QB coach / co OC role; this was a bold move and just demonstrates that MR holds himself accountable and will take action
So I am enjoying the moment, looking forward to spring ball and thinking about buying tickets to USC game as the last time I was there I took my 9 year old son to watch us play Miami in around 2000. GBR :)

Just came from basketball thread about their win over OSU and saw this. Agree that things are looking up for NE. Hope baseball team steps it up this year too. GBR!!!

I probably feel as confident now as I have since the beginning of the frost era. I really thought he would come out of the box with about 9 wins and kick start the program into a recruiting and development hotbed. I was obviously an idiot.

I was with you when SF was hired; 12 months in I remained hopeful but was concerned over lack of discipline (TO's, ST's and Tackling); 24 months in I knew we were going to circle the drain

As I look towards the 2024 season I have upmost confidence that every aspect of the program will be improved over the 2023 season what that translates to we will find out but expect 8-10 wins

I agree. I still have that lump in the back of my throat saying it though. Or at least with rationality. A great coaching staff would have made improvements on our 102 ranked offense from the year before. This should have been an 8 win season with a great staff.

There are certainly positive signs coming from this coaching staff which seems to indicate they are far more engaged than SF. I'm not sure I would read the hiring of a QB coach as an indication that MR is "holding himself accountable". This hiring is not a reaction to last season's results. He intended to hire a QB coach last year. He just couldn't land one at that time. Fast forward to today, he is simply carrying out the plan he had when he first stepped on campus. But his other actions and abundant energy would indicate that he is constantly assessing and reassessing needs and working to find solutions for moving this team forward. MR's recruiting efforts show that he is engaged and ready to do what it takes to try to get the best players he can into the program.

But while things certainly do seem to be trending in the right direction in the off season, there is still a great deal of work to do and a lot of learning to be done by the new additions to this team before we can expect to see a difference in the win/loss columns. We got some great additions to the QB room, but they are still just true freshmen. Our O-line improved some last year, but they still aren't dominant and consistent and will need to continue to greatly improve. We got some additions to the WR room that may help open up the field, but they have yet to take a snap with their new team yet. Same with RB. Early predictions seem to reflect perhaps 7 wins. It would be nice to beat those expectations, but it is entirely possible that there are still going to be struggles next season. Predicting wins before a single practice is a dubious enterprise. But certainly, there are some signs that things may be improving.

The fact that we play UTEP for our first game, instead of a B1G conference opponent will allow a smoother transition for whoever takes over QB duties and give a much needed confidence boost going into the season.

Fair enough MR could have simply stayed the course and not brought in a QB coach but he also named him as QB/Co-OC so my read is this was also acknowledgement that Satt under performed (Duh, I know). IMO that MR is reacting to just how poorly the offense played last season and is taking no chances for a repeat in the coming season

As if a new start with new sraff wasnt tough enuf… we had a series of injuries to key players that was WAY WAY
worse than this team has seen in my memory going back to mid 70s. That handicaps even the best of coaches.

Had the QB play been up to “below avg” rather than abysmal, we would have a min 7 wins and not even be on this topic. Better coaching wasnt gonna keep them from unforced fumbles or bad decision picks last yr.

Maybe. But it could also simply be that the Co-OC title was needed to sweeten the pot for the prospective hire or to help justify his salary.

I'm not sure MR sees the performance of the offense as being caused by his current OC, but more on the level of talent at QB, and the level of development of the O-line and WR corps.

In any event, whether its a reflection on Satt or not , it's likely a good thing that we have our new coach to focus more exclusively on QB development. MR seems to be moving in the right direction. Now, we just need to see some results on the field.

My understanding is its a designation state observed level of pay. It cannot exceed the proposed numbers unless it gets a new designation or an entire rewrite for all.

I feel good too, which is kind of surprising when you think about it considering that we lost the last four games of the season. But the lack of roster churn in particular strikes me as a good sign that the players have "bought in" and like what this coaching staff is doing. I try to stay levelheaded by reminding myself that we have won a lot of off-seasons in the past without the success we expected during the following season, but nevertheless this feels different. I think we're on a good trajectory.

Add to that a near national championship in volleyball and what appears to be the best Nebrasketball team in several years, and there is a lot to cheer about in Big Red Country.

Probably most of us, if we were all honest, felt the same.
