But does not think a northern break off is needed....Jeff Culhane interviews the coach of 40 years (30 seasons with the shockers) and after being told by Culhane that Minnesota's Anderson wants a major change, Gene gives his thoughts on how to change college baseball for the better. He goes on to say that the season needs to be shifted from Feb and March to April and finish up in August, when people are interested in baseball. Says advertisers and fans don't focus on baseball while basketball is just heating up, moving season to a similar schedule as MLB will not hurt, but will help put baseball in the black by bringing a summer sport to campuses.....etc. This interview was on Sports Nightly (May 14). Interesting that Culhane is really trying to get coaches talking about this possible change in the baseball landscape...whatever gets things going in the football offseason!
