Huskers Knock Off Sun Devils, 2-1

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska baseball team (25-19) bounced back in Game 2 of its series against Arizona State, winning by a 2-1 margin over the Sun Devils at Hawks Field on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers never trailed in the game, scoring one run in the third and one run in the fourth inning.

Senior Nate Fisher picked up his fifth win of the season, throwing 5.1 innings and tied a career high with seven strikeouts. Robbie Palkert tossed 2.2 scoreless innings and fanned six Sun Devils to tie his career-best strikeout total. Freshman Colby Gomes earned his team-high 10th save of the season by pitching the final 1.0 inning.

Rubber Match today. See you then.

Interestingly, Nebraska could be anywhere between 3rd and 6th in the Big Ten after today's conference games are played, involving Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota (all three own tiebreakers against us).

Also worth noting (I'm sure it was mentioned somewhere else already), Indiana is now up 2-0 in their weekend series against Michigan. The Hoosiers banged out 10 runs in both wins, which is quite the accomplishment against what was the best pitching staff in the Big Ten coming into the weekend.

If Indiana wins today, they'll take over first in the Big Ten. It's fair to say Michigan probably won't be able to sleepwalk through next weekend's series against the Huskers.

A win today by Nebraska would be oh, so sweet! That, in itself, would be a huge boost for our rpi, etc.!
