Fall Camp 2024: 20 August Coach Foley & 3-4 Players

Still waiting for your answer on who the Top 4 are

Thank you in advance
I am not sure if I remember but I know Rhule effectively said it was Banks, Nayor, Lloyd, and Garcia-Castaneda. I am sure that is subject to change. I would think someone like you who fawns over everything Rhule says would have picked that up. In the open practice CN was mostly playing with the threes.

That’s a good list for top 4, I think top 8 or 9 is more important as that is how deep the rotation will go. The good news is that the WR room is pretty deep this year.

I keep a depth chart every season based on everything I can read on-line. Right now my receiver depth chart looks like this:

X Receiver: Banks(80), Coleman(15) or Bonner(16), C. Nelson(29)
Z Receiver: Neyor(18), Garcia-Casteneda(13) or A. Bullock(84)
R Receiver: Lloyd(19) or Bonner(16), Barney(17) or C. Nelson(29)

In my system, R is primarily the slot receiver and I see (based on what I’ve read) Bonner and Nelson being used as larger slot receivers for mis-match creation and for blocking purposes in some sets. In other sets someone like Lloyd or Barney will be there to create speed mis-matches. I believe all three of these position groups will be flexible with mixing and matching again to create mismatches.

The caveat that goes along with this is that I’m guessing a bit. Having said that, the above is about how I see the depth chart at receiver and this does give us 9 guys rotating in and out.

Edit: I was informed that Y usually designates the TE. I have designated R as the slot receiver and corrected my post accordingly.
Additional corrections from those with more contemporary and/or more detailed football knowledge are welcome.

The last two are debatable

CG (who is from my hometown) is coming off major surgery so an unknown of sorts

Lloyd who like is still very young and was only featured in a couple of games last year

It’s not who they’re returning it’s who they lost. I think it’s a good thing (for us) they’ve got so much returning on offense.

Two key players lost on D and two extremely important losses on special teams.
No doubt they lost some talent, but they have reloaded on that side of the ball with 9 returning starters. They have a better QB as well. They will be as tough as they were last year. Not to mention they got rid of the worst OC in college football.

I guess you can use any system you want, but Y is a TE. If someone is running 3 wides and a TE as in an 11 personnel situation the other WR is sometimes called R sometimes V sometimes W.
