Fall Camp 2024: 20 August Coach Foley & 3-4 Players

These were not two and a half decisions, these were three game costing decisions. Decisions that almost every coordinator would not have made. I would be happy for you to be right and me to be wrong. I hope you are right.
I always remember a coach saying. If you go for it on 4th a d make it. Your a genius. If you miss it your a bum. Coaching is a series of fans saying. Great call....what an idiot. So yeah I do not agree with your assessment.

In the 70s TO was an idiot. In the 90s greatest coach ever. 2004 Frank worst coach ever, now going to the hall of fame for turning a loser to a winner. Craig Bohl worst DC ever. To greatest coach in NDSU history.

So yeah, fans like you and I do not know as much as we think we do.

Doesnt mean its coaching
Could mean talent

Just cuz in the first season a certain group underperforms that means we have a weak link in the staff?
Pretty stupid opinion IMO
Theres lots of reasons a group underperforms, particularly in yr one....without it meaning we have a weak link

It was an honest question, and one you didn’t answer. So… who would you identify as the weak link then?

I know your comment wasn't to me, but I will offer my opinion nonetheless.

I am not going to touch the "weak link" discussion pre-season following year one, but in my opinion Barthel and McGuire are the two position coaches that have the most to prove this year. Yeah, I get that both rooms were hit hard by injuries last season, but that was last year's excuse. Results matter and these are the rooms that have the most to prove on the field. After weak two I might revisit the weak link category depending on results. Preseason, I am just saying they need to prove they can do it and they will have ample opportunity to do so with rooms with the talent on paper.

It goes without saying the QB room must improve, but we are talking about coaches and Thomas wasn't here last year.

Last season I was pretty vocal against Sat, and in retrospect I was a bit too harsh. I promised myself I would give him a chance without preseason bashing. I will probably stay silent up until week 2 results. Results matter here too.

It might be the kool-aid, but I expect significant improvement from the rooms discussed above.

I have a hunch that Satt will look at lot smarter with DR at QB this year. He had one hand tied behind his back last year and wasn't able to fully call HIS offense. I was frustrated at times with him but just kept reminding myself of that.

I never said I agreed with the premise that there is some "weak link"

The O didnt perform well for lots of reasons. Whether there is some "weak link" in the O staff is a premise assumed by a fan. Some here seem to be presuming that when there is an underperforming side of the ball, there has to be some bad coach. Im sure in a certain amount of instances that true. But many times, other factors are more of the reason.

So Im not buying after year 1, with 2 QBs that can throw and one a turnover legend. With some of the same Olineman that sucked before this staff got here and with a team that hasnt had an O that produce more then 5 wins in years......that after being here for like 9 months, we had a weak link in the armor
