Calling it niche does not mean it’s not important. In my original post I noted the importance of the position. I called it niche because it relates to a specific specialty where one burst of energetic play makes all the difference. You have a handful of ST snaps throughout a game. While these snaps are huge, it is my premise that this is a different animal than coaching, for example, an o-line for 60-80 plays over the entirety of a game. It takes a different mentality and being dialed in for long periods of time to do the latter. For whatever reason, Ekeler has not been given the opportunity to coach beyond LB’s and ST’s except at Indiana early in his career. Even then, he was a co-defensive coordinator which is usually an “honorary” title anyway.
His inability to settle in anyplace may be indicative of why he is so successful at special teams but not beyond that.

I'm not sure about a reset. I think if Brett Maher wants it the ST job is his.
Well I recall that you said in another post that you raise beef in Western NE so I know you’re good people @Nehunter88 even if we may sometimes see Husker football differently!
I'm afraid you have me confused with someone else on the raising beef in western Ne part, and I'm sure there are some that might question the good people part. But at least I'm honest, I could have just said yeah that's me one of the good guys.

Can’t keep crying about Ekeler leaving...period. Rhule had better make sure he hires/appoints someone that gets the job done. He’s making millions so he should have the smarts to put a competent coach in as our new STC imo. I have the feeling things are running like a Chinese fire drill and Who’s on First! Hope I’m wrong and Rhule is actually in charge and making sound decisions. Just don’t like the vibe that seems to permeate the program at this time.

Yes, there are a lot of Husker fans that can’t spell the names of coaches and players correctly.
