"Obviously special teams, we need a complete overhaul" - Matt Rhule press conference, December 28, 2024.
I don't think you are far off. Some of the mistakes were player issues, but scheme and a few other things were not. Long story short the special teams are not getting better, and he is ultimately responsible for that. I do think it's time to move on.I'm going to go against the grain and suggest that this is just as much about the players as it is the coach. In fact, maybe more so. I believe it comes down to pride and accountability.
Bingo.Pretty sure his contract expires at the end of this season and no extension was made...
It will soon be overFor the life of me, I spent this year trying to figure out why EF was still coaching ST. My biggest head scratcher.
Special teams was a complete cluster all year. Kickoffs out of bounds, kickoff return out of bounds on the 1, bad snaps on field goals, multiple blocked punts. Im sure I’m missing something…It wasn't a single aspect of ST that were bad. Across the board (other than the punter's passing ability) the ST were poor (last year and even worse this year). There were so many mistakes throughout the season and very few positives, that I think it goes beyond an individual player or two. As a coach, Rhule has to make a statement that that level of incompetence in a particular unit can't stand and changes have to be made. He absolutely has to fire Foley.
I was so glad to hear him say that.It will be interesting to see what a "complete overhaul" is as defined by Coach Rhule.
