Thought it might be fun to have a thread of interesting facts related to NU football.

Kansas State's record was 1–7–1 at the end of the [1951] season, including a 6–6 tie with Nebraska and a 14–12 victory over Missouri. However, when head coach Bill Meek learned after the season that an ineligible player had participated, he immediately self-reported the violation to the NCAA and the school voluntarily forfeited the win and the tie.

The forfeit gave NU a final record of 2-8, instead of 1-8-1.

Texas started the season #1 in the AP poll and went undefeated until losing the Cotton Bowl 24-11 to Notre Dame.
#2 Ohio State's only loss was at the hands of the Standford Indians, 27-17, in the Rose Bowl.
#3 Nebraska defeated #5 LSU 17-12 in the Orange Bowl. Nebraska was favored by 7.

Up unitl 1974, the Coaches poll (later UPI) issued its final poll before bowl games, Texas was declared #1 in the final Coaches poll. NU won its first of two consecutive National Championships.
  • On October 2, one of the planes carrying the Wichita State football team crashed on the way to a game against Utah State, killing 31 people on board, including 14 players.
  • On November 14, the charter for the Marshall Thundering Herd crashed on the way home from a game against East Carolina, killing all 75 persons.
  • Teams are allowed to schedule 11 regular season games, up from 10.
  • Defensive pass interference is penalized from the spot of the foul, regardless if the pass was thrown or not. Previously, interference before the pass was thrown was a 15-yard penalty from the previous spot. This change would be repealed in the 1984 season.
  • Also, defenders were not allowed to touch pass receivers if the receiver had caught up to them in their pattern or if it was obvious they were attempting to catch a pass.
  • Cleat length is reduced from 3/4 inches to 1/2 inch

We Are Marshall movie. Pretty good IMO.

And Wichita State crash, I believe show-off pilot (alternate route). That is why WS Shockers football team disband forever. TRIVIAL: Beetlejuice movie scene showed a deceased Wichita State or Marshall football team .....

FSU won't change. They are sanctioned by the Seminole tribe to use the name and mascot.

I remember shouting chants during Sioux Falls O'Gorman HS (my wife school) vs. Sioux Sewer City Heelan HS football/basketball games. Both Catholic schools (bitter rival).

O'Gorman school ..... only one year, 9th grade. 10 thru 12 grades, SF Washington Warriors HS.

Larry Jacobson in HS, basketball star. Football lineman? .... so-so performance. Because Larry was skinny at the time. He was four years older than me.
