Danny Dimes

I know I am putting the cart before the horse here, as we still have alot of football left this year. The question is does Kailen if I am spelling it correctly have a chance at starting next year, with our current room? I know we will need more for depth hopefully we can pull rabbit out of a hat in the portal.
No

The situation we have at WR is dumbfounding.
It actually isn't. The previous staff recruited poorly and when they did get commits, they got commitments from the wrong guys or the kids saw the writing on the wall and went elsewhere.

Hence 2023.

This is a true rebuild despite what others (not you) think.

If any place has that statistic handy it would be PFF, but I don't subscribe to it. But I agree with your assessment. There are the occasional missed assignment where guys get back there quickly, but the O-line has been serviceable most of the season.
I do think the OLine has (a) been serviceable and (b) improved (slightly) ... but the conservative play calling has also had a hand in that as well. Fewer drop back passes, using the QB a bit more dynamically.

Its funny in my amateur evaluation ... Benhart has been our best lineman. Nouili and Lutovsky essentially have been sharing snaps, Scott has been average but not the savior we were hoping for, Corcoran is playing out of position and Piper has been average as well. I'm hoping more snaps can get this group to gel.

Williams and Sanders might stay in school, though. Williams has already been hinting that he can make just as much money staying at USC as in the NFL. It might be a bluff, but he is flirting with it. Sanders might opt to stay another year to help build at Colorado.

Ewers is the type of guy who I think will only move up in the offseason. The same reasons he was one of the top rated guys out of high school is the same reason why his stock will climb between the end of the season and the draft. Also, if Texas makes a deep run this season, I think his stock will climb.

Either way, I don't think we have any shot at Manning, even if he did enter the portal. He would be a hot commodity for any school. Instant playing time will not be enough to lure him in. We have a better chance of getting someone who was given a chance elsewhere but maybe didn't get enough of a shot. Think like a Logan Smothers type player from a place like Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, etc. (got some opportunities, showed some flashes, but ultimately was passed over by someone better).
Williams and Sanders might be staying but it won't be because they can make more or less money via NIL. The payday is the 2nd and 3rd NFL contracts which they won't get to if they don't start their NFL clock.

Sanders might stay because of his dad but it would be shocking if Williams doesn't go.

I'm not sure I agree on Ewers improving his stock in the offseason. He's not the athlete that Penix or Bo Nix are ... in today's NFL someone will fall in love with their ability to create with their legs. Ewers is a more traditional QB.

I'm not pining for Arch Manning that has as much chance as Julia Roberts showing up at my front door!

Agreed. Benhart struggled mightily last season, but has taken big steps this year. Like you, my evaluation of line play is pedestrian at best, but the results show that they're better, albeit not a strength still.

I'm just reiterating what Williams (and mostly his father) has openly said. I agree, you can still bring in NIL money on top of your NFL salary. I think it is mostly talk on their part to try and avoid ending up in a bad situation. Sanders is more likely to stay, but I'd still be surprised if he does. This is a very deep QB class, though, so a guy staying an extra year, if they can, could ultimately help their stock, if they end up beyond the first couple QBs.

Ewers has a strong arm and can make some of the throws these other guys can't. Scouts will watch film and see some of the throws he can make and latch onto his upside. I think Nix is going to be looked at as more of a guy who won't translate well to the next level (see Daniel Jones, Mitch Trubisky).

I could end up being wrong, but I think there will be a correction factor on some of the "athlete QBs" we've seen teams take chances on these last few seasons. At the end of the day, the NFL is a passing league.

Brady went from one team to another, they adapted to him. Not saying there's an equality of talent but a similarity of play.

Agree with everything you wrote. There are some young guys under the surface that could help in the future, and they lost several guys early from injury or quitting. But the room isn't impressive at the present time I should have said.
