Husker Women Claim Second-Straight Team Title at Augustana​


"The women won the team title with 33 points, led by sophomore Berlyn Schutz, who claimed the individual title with a personal-best 5k time of 16:20.78. Brynna McQuillen crossed the line at 16:50.57 to place third, and Taya Skelton (fifth, 17:11.93) and Cami Merickel (ninth, 17:34.60) joined them in the top 10. Hannah Godwin finished 15th with a 17:43.34 to round out the scoring lineup. South Dakota State finished second in the team competition with 43 points, and Augustana was third with 64.

The men earned a third-place finish with 56 team points. Trevor Acton led the Big Red with an eighth-place finish (18:45.96). Sam Kirchner (18:46.23), Liem Chot (18:46.84) and Dennis Chapman (18:47.04) finished in ninth, 10h and 11th, respectively. Riley Boonstra registered a 19:00.06 in his collegiate debut to place 19th and finish out the scoring for NU. Iowa Western CC finished first with 53 points and South Dakota State was second with 55."
 

"Nebraska sophomore Berlyn Schutz was named the Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Schutz claimed the individual women’s title at the Augustana Twilight on Friday, Sept. 6. She ran a 5k time of 16:20.78, the best of her career, and helped the Husker women to their second-straight Augustana Twilight team title.

This is the third Big Ten weekly award of Schutz’ career. "

"Nebraska cross country runner Dennis Chapman was named the Big Ten Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Chapman, a freshman from Omaha, finished 15th overall at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21 with a time of 25:22.17. He helped the Huskers to a second-place overall finish.

This marks Chapman’s first Big Ten weekly honor for a Nebraska men’s cross country athlete since George Kusche on October 23, 2019. "
 
"The Nebraska women’s cross country team jumped to No. 6 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Rankings on Monday. The Huskers moved up five spots after being ranked No. 11 last week.

Over the course of the 2024 season, the women have finished in first place at two meets – the Augustana Twilight and Greeno/Dirksen Invitational – and third at the Bill Dellinger Invitational.

At the Bill Dellinger Invitational on Oct. 11, every women’s team member set either a personal best or season high in the 6k. "

"The Nebraska men’s and women’s cross country teams ran at the Big Ten Championships on Friday morning. The women finished in 11th in the 6k with 283 points and the men placed 14th in the 8k with 410 points.

Ali Bainbridge led the women with a 19th-place finish (19:46.2), which earned her Second-Team All-Big Ten accolades. Brynna McQuillen was 38th with a time of 20.10.0, and Taya Skelton (66th, 20:33.7), Cami Merickel (88th, 20:50.1) and Berlyn Schutz (109th, 21:01.5) rounded out the Huskers’ scoring lineup.

On the men’s side, Trevor Acton placed 80th after crossing the line at 24:05.6 and Rico Leijennar was 85th with a time of 24:07.9. Liem Chot (24:36.9) and Dennis Chapman (24:38.2) finished 113th and 114th, respectively, and Grant Wasserman finished out the scoring with a time of 24:46.1 and 120th-place finish."
