CU picked 3rd in the Big East and McDermott is the pre-season POY. Basketball season is almost here. It's going to be a fun one at the 'clink this year! I'm slightly bummed that I think I'm going to miss the Georgetown game as I think I'm going to be out of town. I'm torn on the opener being Marquette on New Year's Eve. I usually have plans that night but I'm sure they can wait a couple hours....I'm not missing that game!

CU really only lost Echinique...if you can say "only". I think offensively Will Artino will be a step up but Ech was a beast on defense.

If some of the newcomers fit in quickly and bring some added athleticism CU could be a handful.

Who is this Creighton team you speak of?? ;)). Will be tough on them down low. I think McDermott is a great coach, I am up in the air on Doug. Great Mid Major player, but play can be inconsistent at times. I don't see him being a first round draft pick. Just doesn't have the athleticism. Looking forward to see how NE competes with them this year. Should be a good matchup

Depends on what you are "up in the air about". If it's about his NBA prospects I'd agree. But you will be proven wrong about his being a "great mid major". Every time he goes up against a "BCS" team people say "well, they're gonna out athlete him" and he goes out and puts up the same numbers he puts up against everyone else. He's not going to WOW people with huge dunks, wicked cross-overs, etc. You'll think "meh...didn't do much"...then you'll look at the box score and he put up 20 and 10 again.

As for NBA prospects...I don't follow draft stuff much and who is or may be coming out this year but from what I've seen it sounds like he may be a late first rounder at best. Who knows...if he puts up the same numbers against Big East competition maybe that will change. Regardless, he'll never be a superstar in the NBA. But I'd be shocked if he didn't have a long and lucrative career. Korver isn't probably a name many non-nba junkies or CU followers know much about but he's been making about $5M a year for the last 5 or 6 years...not a bad gig.

I think Doug is a very good player, but hate to burst your bubble. He Is probably the most overrated Div 1 player. He is not a first team All American. Maybe honorable mention. He is a good player on a team the press likes and an average team with him. Truth is he is a heady/smart player that Is inconsistent at times. A very solid to great mid major player, I doubt he will be drafted. You put a stopper on him and he struggles. He just doesn't have the quicks.......

lol

You obviously are blinded by his fair skin.

Last year against "BCS" competition:

Wisco: 30 points, 8 boards.
ASU: 29 points, 9 boards.
Nebraska: 27 points, 4 boards.
Cal: 34 points, 9 boards.
Cincy: 27 points, 11 boards.
Duke: 21 points, 9 boards.

28 points and 8 boards a game against a pretty good cross section of what would would face in a BCS conference season. Even the worst of those teams possess more "athleticism" than the typical Mo Valley team...the kind of "athleticism" that people like you say will stymie him.

Now, Duke did force him into a rough shooting game. As I recall Duke was a 2 seed. A team that is loaded with 5 star talent. yeah, they are going to frustrate a lot of guys. I bet Doug's old HS teammate struggled against duke on occasion. Even then...he still goes 12-12 from the line and grabs 9 boards. Off shooting night but he still manages to have a positive impact on his team.

The absolute LAST thing Doug McDermott is is "inconsistent". It's that line that proves you haven't paid much attention beyond him being a "slow white guy".

EDIT: Interestingly not one of those games I listed was a home game.

Kyle Korver was drafted. Also lacked the "quicks", defensive ability, etc. McD will absolutely be drafted. Again, I don't think he'll be a star but he'll make money in the league for a long time.

Got my tix in the mail today. Obviously never seen a home slate quite like this:

Alcorn St, UMKC, Tulsa, NU, Ark Pine Bluff, Cal, Chico St., Marquette, Xavier, Butler, Georgetown, St. Johns, DePaul, Villanova, Seaton Hall, Providence.

Going to miss Georgetown and St. John's but still...that's going to be a fun line up. CU is also in a tourney with a for sure game against ASU, then San Diego St or College of Charleston then a 3rd game against 1 of a group of teams that include Miami and Marquette and roadies against St. Joe's and Long Beach State.

Finally CU won't have to go 28-5 just to feel good about getting an at-large.

Comon man. Give me a break, HOMER. Be rational. I think he is a very good player. Korver is apples v oranges. He is a 3-point specialist. Doug is 6' 8" and will not be able to create his own shot in the NBA. We shall see, great college player just doesn't have to talent to be an NBA playa. Doesn't shoot 3's like Korver. I would take him all day here at NE.

Korver shot 43% and 48% from 3 his last 2 years.

McDermott is at 49% both years.

Korver for much of his college career was a catch and shoot guy. Wasn't very good at "creating" his own shot. Coming off screens, catching/shooting on the move, etc. are all things he improved on toward the end of his college career and in his time in the NBA. Everyone..myself included...thought his lack of athleticism would keep him from getting significant minutes in the NBA. In his 10th year in the league he played 32 min a game.

Doug is every bit the athlete Korver was as a Jr/Sr and a more well rounded overall basketball player. Korver has worked his tail off and McDermott will have to do the same. Will he be in the league 10 years and average 32 min a game in the 10th year? I don't know. And neither do you. But his basketball acumen...his feel for the game (mock that all you want) is something I've never seen in my MANY years of watching and attending college basketball games. Not every successful player in the NBA is a highlight reel guy like Labron James. There are LOT of guys out there putting in 10 points a game in relative anonymity that are cashing BIG paychecks.

So, don't get me wrong or put words in my mouth. Will he be Lebron? No way. Will he wash out of the league in 3 years? I'd say no way.

I'll keep repeating it...the guy doesn't intimidate anyone with his physical presence. I'm sure other teams look at him during warm-ups and think "Man! I'm gonna school dat chump!" And they block a shot or make a couple stops and think they did something special. Then they look at the stat sheet and realize he just dropped 25 and 10 on top of their domes. You seem like the classic "fan" that thinks it's all about flash and monster dunks...but at the end of the day it's not really about that at all.

Anthony Tolliver.
Mikki Moore.

Two guys right off the top of my head (different games from McDermott) that had decent NBA careers where nobody ever would have thought they would.

Blisker, why don't you marry him!! Nanana. ;))). Agree to disagree. You can spew crap out your mouth all you want. Your a homer thus you love him (a bit too much if you ask me ;)). My eye tells me he will not be a first rounder and will not play in the NBA. We shall see........
