Army Cadets
In the six seasons between 1944 and 1949, coach Earl Blaik coached Army to an incredible 42-2-4 record (.961) and AP National Championships in 1944 and 1945. They were ranked #1 the entire 1946 season, but after barely beating a 1-8 Navy team in the final game of the season, they dropped to #2 in the final AP poll.
That 1946 team had 9 eventual College Football Hall of Famers, including Doc Blanchard, Arnold Tucker, and Heisman Trophy winner Glenn Davis. Coach Blaik is also in the Hall of Fame.
Blaik’s career record at Army was 121-33-10 (.786) Since his resignation after the 1958 season, Army has finished in the AP top 25 only three times (1996, 2018, & 2024.)
Once one of college football’s most feared programs, its significance has been reduced to an irrelevant (in terms of national standing) annual game with rival Navy.
