Colandrea

The offensive line is the primary upgrade.
I just don't think I can go there. The O-line has been decidedly "ok" against two inferior teams so far. Colandrea's feet and pocket awareness have saved NU's bacon multiple times already in those games. Last night, there was FAR too much pressure on Colandrea from BG . . . including a handful of times where their 4-man rush was a problem. Gottula got worked a few times in particular that I saw and Colandrea stayed free. Long term I think Geep will get them much improved.

But I have to go with Colandrea as the biggest upgrade so far. The offense is totally different with him vs last couple years. Defenses have to defend the whole field now.

Agreed, his ability to hit down field, not throw into traffic, and yet hit tight windows, how he slides in the pocket is proving to cause opposing Ds serious problems.

Colandrea's "it" factor and effect on the team:

Rhule said he saw Colandrea change the Huskers’ mindset in spring practice six months ago. It progressed from there. Instead of controlling only what others may believe he can control, Rhule said, Colandrea often takes matters into his own hands with teammates.

For me an interesting comparison will be Kenny Minchey at Kentucky:

Alabama is a different level of opponent. I think the biggest difference is the rushing yardage.

DR had zero time in pocket compared to AC. He gets a fair chance. Is it consistent and reliable? Not always but significant. This line is much better. Last years line didn’t give enough time for wr separation

No doubt this game was two different halves. We still have to put together a whole game. First half of Ohio was a dud and the 3rd qtr against BG was a big WTH.
I know it's still early, but preseason, I was worried we might have a Jeff Simms 2 on our hands. Colandrea's two years at VA were far short of sparkling. His year at UNLV might have been an anomaly. It's beginning to look like we've have a substantial upgrade at QB, IMO.
I’m not sure we have an upgrade at QB. We have a huge upgrade at oline coaching. AC, in two games has had more time to stand in pocket to throw a 30 yard pass then DR and TJ combined in 13 games last year.

Saying he's too short goes against standing in the pocket.
If you're saying AC slides, steps up and scrambles, all things DR was iffy at, or saying AC drills the ball into coverage avoiding interceptions vs placing the ball in there, now we're getting somewhere

Me neither, but it's who we have. I'm not sure he's a downgrade either. There are times he's had to scramble where I've thought Raiola would have been sacked.
I agree the O-line has a better coach.

This is why you and I have arguments. You create a narrative that you can’t support. DR was throwing intercerceptible balls? He had zero interceptions in his first two games as a freshman and sophomore completing 80% of his passes. I love AC but he has had an interception and his 67% completion rate is worse. Don’t come at me with some type of “drilling the ball” to avoid interception narrative. Just silly.
