Colandrea

I remember the kid from Omaha did sack him. I did not see him throw the bones?? Not sure on that
What was related to me was after the sack the Omaha kid threw the bones, then a pair of thumbs down & then a raspberry. I did not see it personally.

It just seemed like AC was surrounded by defenders in quite a few pass plays and that he barely eluded them. If not for his elusiveness, there would have been several sacks. It didn’t look like great pass protection to me, but I’m not an expert.
In ways, a collapsing pocket is to a mobile QBs advantage. Time for one, but also it effects the run game on non obvious run or pass downs, making the D be disciplined in pocket formation. Gaps are to the QBs advantage

I thought pass pro could have better as well. However, Doc gave the offensive line a B plus grade. I think he might know a thing or two about offensive line play. ;)

AC is the type of QB our OC wants/needs to run his offense..... IMO DR didn’t fit what Holgorsen wanted from the QB position. DR might get the opportunity to show what he can do at Oregon? However baring injury to Moore I doubt DR will ever become the starting QB at Oregon. My WAG is DR will probably transfer to another program for next season.

That would definitely fit his MO.

I don’t know if he’s better than DR or not, but the simple fact that his skill set seems to fit more of what OCDH is wanting to run is worth off weight in gold.

Numerous times the past few seasons we’ve watched Dana call some great plays but what really never looked like a good game plan.

Was very impressed with play calling yesterday

That is a compliment. Ganz was a winner. AC has a stronger arm and has more speed.
Ganz was not very fast at all. I think he was a 5.0 guy (of course that is faster than a huge cohort of young men - but not non-linemen in football) as was Zac Taylor. That said, both Ganz & Taylor had running plays to keep defenses honest. I actually think the last few games with DR that he started to run a bit more, and I felt like they needed to do so as defenses were taking advantage.

Jerry Tagge was no speed demon but a good threat to get four or five yards. Same with Warren Moon when he played for the Houston Oilers (we had an idiot running back - NOT Rozier) who hung Moon out to dry a number of times by going the wrong way, so Moon learned to just run out the play and turn up field and get what he could. Wound up being fairly effective..

Overall I liked what I saw. I don't know if he is a better QB than DR, but he's a lot more fun to watch. My only beef is that he throws behind his receivers sometime, making catches more difficult. But I love his confidence and energy. And he's got wheels. After all the reworking, the pass protection still isn't very good. I hope he holds up.
He threw some nice passes and managed the game well. I didn't see anything from him that took my breath away, but also didn't see anything that made me want to bash my head into the wall. The offensive playcalling with him seemed pretty vanilla and I think that was by design. A lot of manageable throws to help him settle in and we really didn't see him asked to use his legs until late in the game. I fully expect there will be a lot more wrinkles as the year goes on. Overall, happy with his ability to move in the pocket over DR and doesn't seem like a major downgrading in the passing game.

AC's running/scrambling ability is a blessing and a curse ... the intentional grounding play was a guy running away from pressure ... going backwards and throwing a pass well behind the line of scrimmage. That is sour to the sweet that AC's running can give you. Try that against Michigan State and the play may result in a worse of an outcome.

Something I really liked about him was how many times the ball was out as soon as soon as he hit the end of his drop. He had plenty of plays where his reads were quick and decisive, and those throws that were coming out were down the field not little quick 5 yard outs or something. I love the playmaking element we knew we'd get from him, but I was worried that may come at the expense of him being able to read the defense and throw in rhythm. Maybe that won't be as prevalent against better defenses, but I liked what I saw in game 1.

I don't know about stronger arm, he is definitely quicker. He just strikes me as having a relatively similar attitude and skill set. Joe would let people have it if they screwed up and was not afraid of contact.
I think AC has a stronger arm.
