Coach Solich to be honored at Spring Game

I’d feel better if it wasn’t an effigy.
Bwak?

'He's too old'

'The game has passed him by'

Alabama fans will do the thing if Saban falls off.
That pretty much holds true in all walks of life not just coaching. Start slipping when you’re in charge and you’re usually not in charge very long. Coaches like it or not are pretty much judged by they W-L record especially at programs that are used to winning. We’ve seen excellent coaches win NC’s and then have a couple of less than stellar seasons and they are gone. Frank was just one example because the fan base spoiled by Dr Tom’s incrediable run. I agree should little Nick have a couple poor seasons by Alabama standards there would be a certain percentage of fans that would be calling for his firing. There are jobs/professions that if you make a single mistake you are either suspended or fired. No one is perfect so when working one of those type of jobs you best not make any big mistakes.

Pal, Saban ain’t falling off
He’s the greatest coach in the history of sports.
Kirby Smart was asked what is the secret to your success after winning back to back National Championships? He said two words “Nick Saban”. I was blessed to work under him.

34-24-1 was his record at Michigan State. Including a butt whipping by TO.

Not arguing he isn’t the GOAT of CFB but he is the poster child of great talent being at the right place at the right time.

He‘s 71 years old, the end is much closer than the beginning. UGA is arguably the king of the SEC at the moment. UF, aTm, Texas, OU, Auburn, UT and others are putting money behind their organizations. ‘Bama has lost 2 games in 3 of the last 4 years … he lost 2 games 3 times in the previous 11.

He is great, maybe best of all time, but to say he isn’t falling off is strong words buddy!

Pal, he isn’t falling off, his competition is getting better. SEC is the gold standard in college football, you don’t reach that with mediocre competition.
By the way Switzer gave TO an annual butt whipping for 7 straight years. If TO had any competition in the Big 2 and little 6 would he have survived the first 7 years? I think not.

Buddy, I didn’t claim TO is the GOAT nor did I make the statement that Saban isn’t falling off you did … TO overcame the butt whippings and went 60-3 his last 5 years. Not saying that would’ve continued if he would’ve stuck around. But this isn’t about TO.

“Falling off” can be due to a lot of things … slippage in an individual’s performance or increased competition or other external dynamics. To me losing 2 games in one year during 3 out of the 4 last seasons is worse performance than losing 2 games in one year in 3 out the previous 11 seasons.

In those 11 years ‘Bama was the unquestioned king of the SEC. Now UGA is. … isn’t that some slippage?

We can talk about coaches all we want … their strengths and weaknesses, their successes and failures … but the demise of Husker football is directly related to the poor leadership at the ultimate levels of the school and athletic program.

Even back to the days of Bill Byrne, who was already with one foot out the door, allowing TO to control the process of replacing TO. Pederson, Osborne, Eichorst, and even Moos … not controlling the process of hiring and managing the football coaches. TA is truly the first AD since Byrne who seemed to be ego-less, a uniter, calm, reasoned, and capable.

FS deserves this honor, and more … frankly, whether he was good enough or not he bleeds Husker red through and through.
100% agree.

Pal ,slippage is not being relevant in college football for 20 years, being a top 3 team for 15 years is NOT slippage. The tide will roll in 24!

Since we are off on a tangent anyway, the SEC has suddenly produced a few teams that can actually beat Alabama and now has a couple of coaches that can coach with him. That is what is new and from the perspective of domination, that's falling off. What I think it also means, though, is that the SEC is getting stronger and stronger and for Saben that means its getting harder to beat them all all the time.

There are degrees a slippage, 9-4 is worse than 13-0. To us now 9-4 would be great.

Alabama might be good this year, they play their typical non-conference schedule (Middle Tenn State, USF, Chattanooga, with one toughie against Texas). Cross-overs are Tennessee and UK. They’ll have a new QB, a new OC.

Even if they’re good this year … doesn’t mean there won’t be slippage. Nebraska’s fall from relevance isn’t slippage…it is fall from the cliffs of the Grand Canyon. Alabama finished the last 4 seasons ranked 5th, 2nd, 1st and 8th (Not exactly top 3).

We’re arguing a bit about definition of what slippage is … never an easy argument. If ‘Bama fails to win an NC this year … this will be the longest gap since NS started at Alabama.
