Coach Solich to be honored at Spring Game

I am happy to see this. It is well overdue. Way overdue. To see what happened post Frank it now seems like we would have been better to keep him IMO. Don't blame Frank in toto. Oz is the one who forced the University to hire Frank. There may or may not have been better choices on Oz' staff in retrospect. But the staff he had accumulated leading up to his firing looked solid. Want to be mad at someone be mad at Pedey

Until we hired Shawn Eichorst which set off the firing of Pelini and subsequently led to Riley, and then Moos+Frost.

IMO, Pederson's error with Solich was about to be corrected with Pelini, or possibly a different Pelini successor, but Eichorst flushed us down a second toilet with Riley.

I realize Bo had ugly, lopsided Big Ten losses, but I think he would have found his footing, or at least a competent AD would have hired someone like Rhule (post Baylor, no NFL?), Fickell or Ryan Day.
Exactly right. Our current state in was not the result of a single mistake but a chain or errors that created a disaster larger than the sum of its parts. Solich might feel better if we hang Peterson in effigy at halftime of the spring game, though.

You'll always have folks say 'He was handed the keys to a Ferrari and screwed it up' without looking at the overall picture of college football and how that was changing and would have effected even the great TO.

Solich deserves to be welcomed back and treated with respect, IMO.

We can say that, do that, and still agree that we were trending down under his watch and that he'd have been gone at some point. I still say we'd have avoided Callahan, Riley or Frost type of 'Down' under Frank, but would have likely seen our peak with him in 2001.

Glad he'll get this moment.
I completely agree. TO would have had a tough time matching his magical run had he stayed on another 5-7 years and I'm not sure there was another coach in the nation at the time that could have taken over for TO and kept that momentum for another 6-10 years.

Most likely! Frank had a shot but he couldn't recruit the qb to take over after Crouch. He got stuck with old assistants that didn't have the energy and desire to recruit.
