Coach Butler called a great game! Are you all in on Coach JB?

Thought the defense played very well overall, including the new faces. Don’t want to pick on MH but he was responsible for at least 60-70 key passing yds. The early screen play and another decent downfield pass play where he just got lost. Big chunks by one guy.

Side note about difficulties with the screen game yesterday: it wasn’t as bad as it looked from a scheme standpoint. Coach brought some decent pressure and mixed it up a little, which was absolutely a successful strategy against BC and in that weather. A few guys (not most) have tackling issues and otherwise changing direction and reversing field after a rush is the most difficult thing to do in a swampy, muddy field. So Coach BO (no dummy) used the screen game well.

And notice that MH saw the sideline for a while after the early missed tackle. That happened too with Fidone when he wiffed on a block early in the game. Loved that they both were immediately benched to think about it.
I’ve been chewing on MH all season. Weak link.

Butler passed the first test. I only put 6 of BC's points on his unit. Allowing just 6 points is impressive no matter the opposition, but the Defense lived very dangerously. I think all but maybe two of BC's possessions ended in NU territory. Making four fourth down stops is exceptional, but likely not sustainable.

If we're being picky, some areas that will need to improve:
- open-field tackling
- pass rush needs to get home more frequently
- 3rd and long defense
- force some 3-and-outs
- force more than 1 turnover (should have had at least two vs BC, not sure how Singleton missed the one INT)

Prior to the game they were 50% making their fourth downs, 16-32.
They tried four times and failed four times

I'll be all in when they learn how to defend screen passes.
Yeah, this was the area that disappointed me too. However, we had players in good position, but the tackling in the flats was poor, especially by a DB who is graduating this year.

GBR!

I liked how we shut down the run but we gave up 300 yards passing. A lot of missed tackles.
Look at the average yards per attempt, 300 yards passing at 41 attempts isn’t all that impressive

We were dominant physically and played really downhill on D. I was impressed the scheme dismantling their run game. BC’s one long screen pass was on the players. The play call wasn’t that dangerous.

Glad we’re keeping the hire in house. We have some talent in the portal on that side of the ball and plenty of youngsters to hop in. I expect less beef and more speed. It’ll probably be a wash.

I've a feeling placement or adjusting was new to the players. When you shade it makes it harder for the expected, but much easier for the unexpected.
