Coach Butler called a great game! Are you all in on Coach JB?

There were a handful of really bad missed tackles, but the Blackshirts played pretty well overall.

I'm in the "giving Butler the benefit of the doubt" camp as of now. We'll see how he handles losing several key pieces.
The bold should be a top priority with spring ball. Some of those 3rd & long could have been stops with better tackling. Not just in the bowl game, but for the entire season.

I agree that Butler called a good game. It is tough to tell how he will do based on this game, but I was pleasantly surprised. We did give up a ton of yards but the conditions for this game made it hard to judge. We lose a lot on D so it will be up to Butler to develop a defense.

We will know by mid next year how good he is. But yes, he called a good game.

Sure. I don't disagree. Regardless of who we played it was still hard to make anything of this game. I think we can say that he did call a pretty good game. A good DC is more about developing talent and promoting effort. We won't get an idea about that until next year. Unfortunately for Butler, next year he wont have Hutch or Ty.

He never looked outcoached, didnt see a repeat of successful plays.
I give their qb a ton of respect them being primarily a run team.
Now, with his own tweaks and coaches things could look better possibly in certain aspects.
We get some depth on D line it may look really good, but all and all the kids played well and he had everyone ready.

The defense did a good job overall, especially with some of the new faces out there.

What will be interesting is what Butler does in Spring and Fall practice. Because of time limitations in bowl prep, he stuck with what was on the books. Did see a couple of wrinkles with the fronts, but overall we played White’s defense. Once the next transfer round settles down (really interested to see which position groups he goes after) and he knows what he’s got to work with, we’ll see what direction he takes.

I saw more stunts by our DL than I've seen the last 2 years, almost to the point it seemed they did it every play some drives.

He also played some of the smaller DE’s inside with varying degrees of success.

I’d like to see us change a couple of things up on the back end, but anything has an offsetting risk.

Based on what we saw yesterday I'm expecting us to give up more yards and 3rd down conversions next year while having an increase in turnovers and sacks. I liked the aggression we saw even though the 3rd and longs we gave up were maddening.

A couple of things about the 3rd downs that come into play. We had a true freshman play a ton of snaps at DB and though he played well, it’s part of the equation.

I love Giffords effort and the story, but man….missed tackles, bad angles, etc. Not just him, but we need to clean that up.

We blitz more next year, which will be likely, and we’ll be leaving the DB’s on an island. Have to get there more and not just with pressure. I’d also like to see a little different approach with some of the man coverages and how our corners play the receiver. I suspect that’s coming, but we’ll have to wait.

Fortunately for the first time in a while the wait will be a more positive one. The offseason feels a lot longer with no bowl game and a losing record.
