It's pretty rare for a Husker assistant to leave the staff directly for a head-coaching position at another Division 1-A school. The only ones I can think of, looking back to 1960 or so, are Warren Powers (Washington State, 1977), Jerry Moore (North Texas, 1979) and Tony Samuel (New Mexico State, 1998).

Are there any others?

Turner Gill doesn't count since he spent time with the Packers before going to Buffalo. Ditto with Kevin Steele, with the Panthers before Baylor. Monte Kiffin, Carl Selmer and Jim Walden all took assistant-coach jobs before becoming head coaches.

Not sure, but I thought Monte Kiffin went from NU DC to HC North Carolina State in the early 70s.

Carl is making a mistake imo. This move doesn't make much sense to me at all. I understand him wanting to be a head coach, etc...but from a football stand point, and even a coaching standpoint...this move makes no sense. But I do wish him the best.
