Bullet Dodged?

I really hope that he is doing this because he wants/needs to, and not just because he got caught.
I suspect it is a little bit of both … if he was a plumber and he went to rehab then no questions … seeing as he aspires to play football (collegiately and professionally) … two institutions that have a strict no gambling rule.

My fear is that he is going to challenge the no gambling rules and weaken the restrictions already in place. He does not deserve the privilege of being able to play college football and his path to the NFL is/should be very murky at best.

lets se what his draft stock is like as he enters the supplementary draft....

I read somewhere it appears Cincy was going to leak the information which prompted Sorsby to make the move first. Maybe a get even move for leaving. But if that turns out to be accurate, I'm not so sure that's a smart move because it would imply they knew while he was playing for them and did nothing.

The chance of that is near zero.

He missed the draft and betting on your own team while you are on the roster is a lifetime CFB ban. He only checked in when he had no options and it was coming out.

They even softened the penalties for the Iowa and Iowa State athletes betting on other sports that got season bans. This looks so much worse than what they did.

He is really shooting for sympathy points and it may be enough to sit out a season and lose $5 million and get that sympathy from the NFL in a year. His best course of action for that is to probably remove himself from the roster and announce he is done with CFB because a lifetime ban would be a bad taste for the NFL.
With all the jack that the NFL is making off gambling commercials and activities, they would likely welcome him in. Then again, I am old enough to remember when the commercials during games were beer and truck ads, not magic Richard pill and gambling ads.

Many of the states are on board with gambling, so they may have a hard time suing "big gambling" like they did "big tobacco" when the outcome is not what they wanted. As if the states really want anyone to stop paying the sin taxes.

Addiction in any form is a horrible thing, so I truly hope that he gets the help he needs.

I wonder what he bet on the NU game last year.
I know, let's ask this guy:

sucks pete rose GIF

The irony isn't lost on us ... gambling (DraftKings, Fanatics, FanDuel, BetMGM ...) is in lockstep with the NFL. They (NFL) make money in their collaboration with gambling ... nevertheless they are pretty zealous about ensuring staff, players and referees are closely monitored about gambling. The last thing they (NFL) want is the hint that games are marginalized because of suspected gambling.

I doubt Sorsby is allowed in the NFL and if he is there will be all sorts of conditions and monitoring.

Personally I hope he isn't allowed in the NFL as a signal that gambling in any form is dangerous, addictive and corrosive.

Maybe Sorsby ends up as a spokesman for DraftKings, Fanatics, FanDuel, BetMGM ...

I wonder how many hotshot big money NIL players might get swept up in this investigation. It’s one thing to gamble away money earned with lots of blood, sweat and tears as opposed to getting millions over short time period ?For some players simply playing college football is now making insane money. Yes the players work hard but it's hardly equivalent to most people earning it the old fashioned way. Being young and being showered with millions playing college football there’s probably little appreciation. Gambling is life time addiction for those that do it. My SIL gambled away her home and marriage. She tried several programs to stop but sadly always went back to big time gambling.
