Bullet Dodged?

He may have been fine here. Nebraska is a no gambling state. Probably saved my savings by staying here, lol.

I really hope that he is doing this because he wants/needs to, and not just because he got caught.
How many addicts do you know that turned themselves into rehab without something horrible happening to them first?

I think he's under investigation. This is like getting a DUI and your attorney always says "go to a class/rehab" before the trial so you can tell the judge you're getting help.

Exactly

While it has been known to happen for a select few that have the self awareness of where they are on that path, it is rare.

I had the same thought about the preemptive rehab stint. The problem I have personally seen is that those that are just trying to delay the nudge from the judge have a tendency to be right back where they started after the heat dies down. Thus, my hope that he is doing this out of want, and not just the immediate calculus of those that find themselves boxed in by circumstance and consequence.

Agreed, it's more often than not just out of a desire to lessen the punishment, not find a way to stop acting on the addiction. I'm sure it works the first time more than I realize, but those that I know that are addicted to something, it took multiple attempts at sobriety to get clean.

The chance of that is near zero.

He missed the draft and betting on your own team while you are on the roster is a lifetime CFB ban. He only checked in when he had no options and it was coming out.

They even softened the penalties for the Iowa and Iowa State athletes betting on other sports that got season bans. This looks so much worse than what they did.

He is really shooting for sympathy points and it may be enough to sit out a season and lose $5 million and get that sympathy from the NFL in a year. His best course of action for that is to probably remove himself from the roster and announce he is done with CFB because a lifetime ban would be a bad taste for the NFL.

Gonna see more of this. A lot of us "kids" loved gambling on sports back in the college days. Its just that these days athletes now have a big bag of cash dropped into their laps to play with.

Not to mention, easier access to gambling sites with the interwebs present.
