Bud Crawford

He just absolutely represents the heart of the state, and I have a good friend who fought him (years ago) and it was just awesome. I was born into this world like 3 blocks from his mom's house 37 years ago

I fought forty years ago and have really gotten tired of modern boxing, but still love watching a boxer who has 'It'.

Crawford has the technical skills, the hand speed, the power in both hands and the tenacity to be the best ever in any weight class.

It's really a shame the sport isn't what it was forty years ago, or he'd be all over the news and they'd be talking about him in the same way they did Ali, Leonard, even that poser DeLaHoya.

Agree on the sport not representing the past...... currently.

Miss the rivalries, regardless of weight class.

Miss the Ward versus Gotti fights.

Last night was a clinic for boxing purists.
Crawford is special.

Growing up, the “heavy weight champion of the world” was the baddest man on the planet and today a very small percentage even know who it is. Quickly, who can name him? Boxing as a whole has taken a hit from all of the ufc/mma stuff that has taken the mantle and the eyeballs from the average fan away.
I just don’t have interest in mma/ufc. To me, there is an artistry in the parameters of boxing that you don’t get in a street fight/chokehold contest. I can understand an argument about the different backgrounds (artistry) of an mma match being more artistic so maybe I’m not wording it correctly, but a big boxing match is still more enjoyable to me…. And I miss it, just ain’t the same as it used to be.

Shout out to @phillycheez402 for simple, direct thread title!!

The one positive is that as interest wains. It may end the big price tag on PPV. Heck, it may end it all together and put it back on regular TV. The Smart thing that UFC does is put big tier 2 matches on ESPN, Previously Fox Sports. They use those matches to gin up interest in the BIG BIG matches. One week you will see a good not great title fight for free. Then the very next week the match everyone wants to see.

Add to the above, you have to earn your way into the UFC. There are several smaller leagues where fighters go to earn their stripes. Then when they are good enough the UFC comes calling.

Someone also mentioned the whole segmentation of boxing. If you are under this promoter, you cannot fight that guy because he is under that promoter. All those things come together to make boxing less interesting. In the UFC you will always see the fights people want to see.
