Brett Maher Named Special Teams Coordinator

Im impressed with your coaching credentials
I’m impressed by your ignorance. Seems you were bitching about Riley at 19-19, but for Rhule it’s okay. You use to NOT be that way. Like I said, you’ve gotten soft in your old age. I thought he was a better coach than this, truly did, but I’m not seeing it. Lots of talk, not much walk. 3 years is plenty to see how good anyone is at their jobs. Lots of buffoonery on the field, which is unacceptable for a coach with his salary, regardless of where he was.

He has been a failure. Ive never said otherwise. He will either get his shitt together, or get fired. I got no say in that equation.
I just dont have the bandwidth to pretend i know whether a hire was good or not, like some think they are..its not my job. Im not gonna piss about not retaining Eckler, because Eckler was asking too much. Maybe it is a good hire, maybe not.

Go read N2FL's article from today

The BIG is NOT a league where you give young guys their "chance" with "Help" if you want to be winner as Jeremy points out.
HCMR should have learned that with some of his earlier hires that did not have the experience needed to be successful at this level as N2Fl points out so clearly and should have found away to keep the highly successful Ekler.

Head Coaches win because of the staffs they assemble, letting Ekler go is a hugh mistake as a program like DONU has to have wonderful ST to steal wins from the teams that have greater resources than we do.

If HCMR does not realize this then he will never do better than the last two seasons in Lincoln :(

GBR
Jeremy is as wrong as often as he’s right. This topic is tired, and something fresh that requires actual reporting, instead of just speculation, would be nice.

Rhule made Eck a great offer EVEN though I don’t think he really trusted him. What he wouldn’t do was give Eckler a position coaching spot, and I think that could have been disastrous. Eck is fine on an island, and it was mentioned how he had his office away from the other coaches, creating his own world. Players don’t need to see that, they need to know who to listen to and when. If our new DC wants things done his way, I don’t think Eck could be counted on to follow that.

Before anyone says I’m doing exactly what Jeremy did, speculating instead of knowing, you are right. But I don't use a platform that goes out to the masses, I don’t suggest I’m either an expert or privy to information not available to most, and I don’t say things potentially inflammatory knowing that can create more interest to my content. I’m just a fan, and I get a little sick of sniping comments from media. Fans I can tolerate because a portion of us are idiots, but media with zero loyalty to the program, regularly writing speculative/negative articles gets old. I’ve never understood the fawning some of you do over this guy.

So has Maher ever coach before?
I haven't paid any attention to this.
Great players dont always make good coaches.

What do i know.
Just hope someday Nebraska comes relevant again

Short answer is yes, but not much:

He has kicked in the NFL for 5 years and 3 different teams.
He has been on a lot of teams' rosters. 13 different rosters including Dallas and Ottawa twice.

What he lacks for in true coaching experience he makes up for having been exposed to a lot of professional teams. I suspect you learn things with such a transient career. Will that make him a good coach? Maybe, maybe not.

Time will tell.
Nebraska seems to be a stepping stone for coaches, not a destination

Not sure I agree with this.

Rhule could have pursued the PSU job harder - he didn't
Ekeler left because he wanted more depth to his responsibilities besides just STs.

Most coaches who've left ... have done so unwillingly - Raiola, Bradden ...
