Tuesday Night Massacre by Marc Johnson
Interesting book. Looks at importance of Terry Dolan in shoving aside the GOP regulars and using "independent" PACs to attack with negative campaigns four Dem senators in 1980, regardless of the truth of the campaigns, because winning was everything. Describes how successful those tactics were and still are, and sees those campaigns as the catalyst to providing juice to the old Goldwater manifesto. Lots of kind of inside stories of some familiar names. Any of you who have served in any GOP political campaign since Goldwater days or even more recently the Tea Party movement will have worked with or against some of these people and their tactics. Some of you probably have worked for them. Either way it is a good chronicle.
The author was an aide to Dem Gov Andrus of Idaho and is now a journalist and author. Not a book about Trump. Does have a pro Dem bias.
Senators were Culver, Church, Bayh and McGovern.
