I seriously would have wanted Bo Pelini as my defensive coordinator. Brilliant defensive mindset. Extremely passionate (a requisite for a DC in my opinion). I just cannot see Bo Pelini without someone who has enough gravitas to say OK ... enough. Early on he had Tom Osborne and his brother Carl Pelini.

I also seriously question whether BP had enough self awareness to be honest with himself.

He was disenfranchised down the stretch … he called out his AD, he called out the fan base, he told his players to transfer.

He was a petulant child. His own brother left the program.

Yeah I wish we’d be at a level to complain about winning just 9 or 10 games but Pelini’s recruiting wasn’t good. He won largely with Callahans recruits (Ndamukong Suh?).

Yes, his players loved him, to the end … but there’s a reason he isn’t coaching anymore.

He recruited Rex Burkhead, Abdullah, and Tommy Armstrong. Two career NFL RBs. Haven't seen that around these parts in a while.

Rivals had the team rankings for NU of 37th for 2012, 21st for 2013 and 32nd for 2014.

Sure he had successes everyone does including Riley and Frost.

All great players, none were considered blue chip recruits. Burkhead was a 4* on one site the other 2 were middle of the road 3*.

He lost interest and was disgusted when Osborne was pushed out sooner than he wanted, and with the hiring of doapy opey. He literally quit right then and went thru the motions. You could see it. He begged to be fired. Hence the drop off on defense his last 3-4 years. He no longer cared, other than about his players.

No question about that. NU has had some just horrendous leadership. It’s been so bad, it almost seems like it was done on purpose. No one can be that stupid, can they?
